'Chiraiya' actress, Divya Dutta, revealed the reason behind staying unmarried despite having serious relationships.
Divya Dutta is one of the most talented actresses of her generation in Bollywood. She debuted in Hindi cinema in 1994 with the film, Ishq Mein Jeena Ishq Mein Marna. It was followed by Veergati, in which she delivered an iconic performance that garnered significant attention. With films like Veer-Zaara, Delhi 6, Heroine, Badlapur, and Milkha Singh, Divya made a name for herself in the Hindi film industry. Speaking about her personal life, the actress chose to remain unmarried at 48.
Divya Dutta has had a few relationships in the past and is still open to love. But when it comes to marriage, the actress has her own reservations. The actress once revealed that she has learned from her past mistakes and would not want to fall for the wrong guy. She also revealed that, because she has a demanding career, her past relationships did not provide that stability.
Though Divya met several good men, she realised over time that they were not right for her. In an interaction with Hindustan Times, Divya spoke about her single status and revealed that she would rather be single than be in a dysfunctional family. Speaking about the same, she shared:
“If you find a good partner, it's great to be married. If not, life moves on beautifully. It's better to nurture yourself than stay in a dysfunctional marriage. Rather than lowering yourself in a relationship, it's better to love yourself. There’s a lot of male attention coming my way and I enjoy that, but a relationship should happen when you connect.”
In the same interaction, Divya Dutta revealed that though she has her aversion to marriage, she is still open to having a companion. Revealing how the actress felt that she was overqualified for marriage, Divya shared:
“You know, my best friend sent me a quote — a person asks, ‘Why are you single? You are beautiful, attractive, caring,’ and I say, ‘I think I’m overqualified.’ There comes a time when you look for completeness outside, which is not necessary. It’s not necessary that you’ll only be complete when a good partner enters your life. I used to have that misconception. I used to wear my heart on my sleeve — but not anymore.”
It was in 2005, when reports had it that Divya Dutta was engaged to Lt. Commander Sandeep Shergill and the two had exchanged rings in Chandigarh. However, instead of the news of Divya’s marriage, reports of her broken engagement surfaced in the media. Though the actress didn’t deny the reports, she said she would talk about it when she was ready.
While Divya was engaged to Sandeep Shergill, there were reports of a possible affair with her Shanno Ki Shaadi co-star, Vikas Bhalla. Reports had it that Divya and Vikas’ growing closeness led to her broken engagement with Sandeep. However, Divya never addressed the rumours and kept her dignified silence on the matter.
