"I expect to be checking out from this domain this summer. If you are reading this, things did not go well for me. I have a few things to say before I go. My body failed before my brain. I am of sound mind as I write this on January 1, 2026. With your permission, I’d like to explain my life. For the first part of my life, I was focused on making myself a worthy husband and parent, as I waited to find meaning. That worked, but marriages don’t always last forever, and mine eventually ended in a highly amicable way. I’m grateful for those years, and for the people I came to call my family."
Further, in the letter, Scott mentioned that after his two broken marriages, he felt lost and needed a new purpose in his life. Thus, he decided to dedicate his life to helping other people. He tried his best to help others in some way or another. He highlighted that from that time, it marked a change in his cartoonist career, and he dedicated himself to writing. He shared that he had an amazing life and gave 100 per cent to his work. He ended the note by sharing that he loved his fans to the very end.
According to the latest reports, Scott Adams passed away on January 13, 2026, after his long battle with cancer. Earlier, in May 2025, the Dilbert creator revealed on his podcast that his prostate cancer had spread to his bones. He shared that every day was just like a nightmare to him. He expressed his pain that cancer caused him. He highlighted that with each passing day, the pain is spreading to different parts of his body. In his words:
"Every day is a nightmare, and the evening is even worse. I’m in pain, and I’m always in pain, and the pain moves around to different parts of my body. I’ve been using a walker to walk for months now."
Later, on January 1, 2026, while the whole world was celebrating the New Year, the author was sad as his radiologist revealed to him that he had zero chances of recovery. During the livestream on his podcast, Real Coffee with Scott Adams, the cartoonist shared details about his terminal cancer diagnosis. He was quoted as saying:
"It's all bad news. The odds of me recovering are essentially zero. I'll give you any updates if that changes, but it won't. January is a month of transition. I will continue livestreaming as long as it makes sense. I like doing it. Keeps me busy."
