Utah Supreme Court justice Diana Hagen resigned amid a probe into allegations that she had been involved in an affair with attorney David Reymann. Here's what her former husband alleged!
Utah Supreme Court Justice, Diana Hagen resigned from the bench on May 8, 2026. Diana's decision came just three weeks after Utah's top state leaders called for a further probe into a previously investigated case, according to which Diana allegedly had an affair with an attorney, David Reymann.
Diana and David have previously denied these allegations; however, with the call for further investigation, Diana decided to resign from the bench. Around three weeks ago, some shocking allegations were made against the Justice, and the complaint was sent from a Provo-based attorney, who claimed to have been informed about the affair by Diana's former husband. Diana is hitting the headlines with this current incident, so let's have a look at what exactly happened!
It was in December 2025 that a complaint was lodged with Chief Justice Matthew Durrant and the Judicial Conduct Commission. According to the records, which were obtained by ABC4, Utah Supreme Court Justice Diana Hagen failed to promote 'confidence in the judiciary' due to being 'improperly influenced by external relationships'. Diana shared her resignation letter to Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, which was obtained by Fox News.
In the letter, she spoke about the toll the investigation has taken on her. She, in her note, further mentioned that she had been associated with her job for more than two decades, while adding that she is keenly aware that public service requires sacrifice, which she also willingly accepted for the privilege of holding a position of public trust and protecting the constitutional rights of every Utahn.
Diana, in her resignation letter, further added how the current allegations around her personal life, which involve her 30-year-old marital life, ended up being a tough phase for her family members and close ones. An excerpt from Diana's resignation letter could be read as:
"I also understand that public officials are rightly held to a higher standard and must accept a greater degree of public scrutiny and diminished privacy. But my family and friends did not choose public life. They do not deserve to have intensely personal details surrounding the painful dissolution of my thirty-year marriage subjected to public scrutiny."
As per reports, attorney Michael Worley, in his complaint, revealed that he received a Facebook message from Hagen’s ex-husband, Tobin Hagen, wherein the latter acknowledged his divorce from Diana Hagen. Reportedly, Tobin also said that he found out some inappropriate texts between Hagen and attorney David Reymann, one of the lawyers of a major court case about Utah’s voting maps (redistricting). According to KLS, these complaints were filed to Chief Justice Matthew Durrant and the Judicial Conduct Commission through Tobin Hagen's attorney, Michael.
To mention, with the affair allegations, a huge controversy was raised, given that Reymann was associated with the groups suing the state for its redistricting maps, while Hagen, as a judge, was the one to choose if the maps were legal. As the allegations were that Diana Hagen had an affair with the attorney, it was being stated that she violated a fundamental legal ethic during one of the major cases. No sooner had the complaint been lodged than Diana came forward and denied all the claims.
Diana dismissed the claims that she was involved in adultery, pointing out that her last involvement in the redistricting case was in October 2024. She also added that she rekindled her friendship with David, only after her thirty-year marriage was over, and since then she voluntarily rescued herself from any redistricting or other cases, which involved the attorney. She earlier said:
"My last involvement in the redistricting case was October 2024. I voluntarily recused myself from all cases involving Mr. Reymann in May 2025, and my recusal was reflected in the Court’s September 15, 2025, opinion in League of Women Voters."
