Who is Denis Shapovalov's wife, Mirjam Bjorklund?

Mirjam Bjorklund, like her husband, Denis Shapovalov, is also a well-known tennis player. Born on July 28, 1998, she is a year older than Denis. She made her debut at the 2017 Swedish Open, and later appeared in the 2022 French Open for her first Grand Slam appearance.

While she was eliminated in the first round, it opened several doors for her. The biggest title of her career to date was the 2023 W100 Ilkley Trophy, where she defeated American Emma Navarro, who was the top seed in the competition, in the final.

Inside Mirjam Bjorklund and Denis Shapovalov's love story

Mirjam and Denis started dating in 2019. However, they knew each other long before romance brewed between the two. According to reports, the two grew up on the international junior tennis circuit together. Mirjam even spoke about knowing Denis before he became a well-known star and told ATP News:

"We knew each other a little bit in juniors but not a lot. He was doing a lot better than I was, so I would just see his name in the finals, and I would be on a flight back home, but I didn't know him personally at that time. We got to know each other a couple years later."

She is also the one who made Denis aware of the pay disparities in the sports world. Denis, who currently stands at No. 29 in the world by the ATP, wrote for the Player's Tribune in 2023 about the pay gap in tennis. He admitted his naivety on this subject, candidly reflecting on his own privilege compared to his partner in today's tennis landscape. He said:

"Some say women don't sell as many tickets, but when I go to matches the stadiums are full. I took a picture of the stands when Mirjam was playing Daria Saville at the WTA 250 in Washington, D.C., in August last year. It was packed. The game was crazy intense. The quality was unbelievable. Saville won the third set in a tie-break. The men were playing a 500 tournament there at the same time. The male winners in the first round got USD 14,280. Saville got USD 4,100."

Mirjam and Denis worked side by side on their relationship and their individual careers, and after being together for four years, Denis popped the big question and asked his lady love to marry him. The couple announced their engagement a week before Mirjam's 25th birthday in 2023. They stayed engaged for over two years before tying the knot on September 9, 2025.

Mirjam and Denis tied the knot at the Lesante Cape, a five-star luxury resort, in Zakynthos, Greece. For the ceremony, the bride wore a strapless ivory gown by Ukrainian bridal designer Milla Nova, whereas Denis wore a BOSS peak lapel tuxedo. What made the event even more special was that Mirjam chose to have her father, mother, and sister in her bridal party. Denis, on the other hand, had five of his closest friends as groomsmen.
