Blake Shelton, one of the most prominent voices in country music, found both fame and love through his appearance on The Voice. The country singer got into a high-profile relationship with his co-judge on the show and pop star, Gwen Stefani. His divorce from 2nd wife and another well-known country singer, Miranda Lambert, was highly publicised as well. However, very few people know about Blake's first wife, Kaynette Williams, who was also his childhood friend. So, what led to their divorce after three years of marriage? Here's what we know.
Blake and Kaynette went to the same high school in their hometown in Oklahoma, but they met after she graduated. The duo had met when Blake was 15, but they remained friends for years and started dating when he was nearly 21. Kaynette was part of Blake's life when he was just beginning his country-music career. As per a report by Country Thang Daily, she also helped her then-boyfriend as his road manager.
After dating for a few years, Blake and Kaynette got married in 2003. This was also the time when the singer was making waves in the industry and slowly rising to fame. Kaynette had known Blake through his teenage years, his foray into the music industry, and his success as a budding singer. After his first marriage, Blake had also said that Kaynette was 'the one' for him. However, after years, the country singer's views seemed to have changed.
Blake and Kaynette were long-time partners. However, they split up after three years of marriage. As per a Country Fancast report, Kaynette had cited that Blake was 'guilty of inappropriate marital conduct' as the reason for their divorce. For the unversed, actions such as infidelity, mental or physical cruelty, abandonment of spouse, and more fall under the ambit of this inappropriate conduct. Although the former couple has never revealed the exact reason for the divorce, Blake once shared with Men's Journal that the marriage wasn't a 'good fit'. He also said to People:
“I just really don’t think I was ready to be a husband."
According to multiple reports, following the split, Kaynette put up her wedding dress for sale and also moved back to her hometown in Oklahoma. She is now an award-winning elementary teacher and is married to a rodeo cowboy named Cody Joe. Blake went on to get married for a second time to country singer, Miranda Lambert. They also relocated to Oklahoma. Following this, Kaynette decided to leave Oklahoma and said to The Enquirer that the state did not feel big enough for the three of them.
After four years of marriage, Blake and Miranda went their separate ways as well. In the midst of his high-profile divorce, Blake got closer to his The Voice co-judge, Gwen Stefani. She was also in the middle of a publicised divorce from musician, Gavin Rossdale. Given the similarity of their distressing situation, the two singers formed a bond and then started dating. Blake gave marriage a third try and tied the knot with Gwen in 2021.
