Ricky Alvarez and Ariana Grande dated for a year, from 2015 to 2016, when he worked as a backup dancer on her Honeymoon tour. The couple was first linked when Ariana made it to the headlines with her doughnut-gate scandal, and following this, the couple's kissing video also surfaced. Sources revealed to E! that the singer was happier than ever, and she and Ricky had gotten extremely close to each other and were trying to keep their relationship private.
However, after a year, the duo broke up. Speaking about the reason for their breakup, there had been several speculations around, including cheating; however, sources confirmed that the couple didn't part ways because of any kind of cheating, as there was none. According to the sources, the couple found it hard to make it work. Sources revealed:
"She broke up with him. He didn't cheat or anything, they just found it difficult to make it work. They are still friends though."
To mention, Ricky and Ariana Grande remained friends with each other even after their breakup. The couple was spotted hanging out once in a while. The recent outing happened at De Nada Cantina in Austin, Texas. It was a group lunch, as reported. The owner, Stephen Shallcross, speaking to the Austin American-Statesman, said that Ariana was friendly with both staff members and guests, and she clicked a few selfies with the fans. The outing came just after Ariana changed the lyrics of her song, Thank You, Next, where she had given a nod to her ex, Ricky, during her first show in ATX. The original line was, 'Wrote some songs about Ricky/ Now I listen and laugh', and she changed it to 'And they still really slap'.
This was not the first time that Ariana modified the lyrics of her song. It was a few days ago, when, during her tour, she also showed two fingers in the air, and the lyrics read, 'Only wanna do it once real bad, gonna make that s--t last'. While in the original song, it was a reference to her divorce from Dalton Gomez, the modification came just before the report broke out that Ariana had broken up with Ethan Slater, after three years of dating.
Now, the question is whether Ariana is dating Ricky Alvarez again. To answer, there's no confirmation about the same, and sources also revealed to TMZ that there's nothing romantic going on, and they are friends who met on the occasion of the singer's birthday, recently. Ariana and Ricky maintained a good friendship between them, and even though he said that Ari should date him again after her song, Thank You, Next, gave a nod to him, it seems to be just a friend supporting the other with whom he has a history.
