While Stephan Garner admitted to killing Amber, he denied the murder charges. Now, the trial in this case opened in Manchester Crown Court in October 2026, and new details about the incident have emerged. To mention, Stephan Garner, who is 31 years old, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not guilty of murder.
In court, prosecutors revealed that Amber was stabbed in the early hours of April 18, 2026, a day before Stephan was arrested on suspicion of murdering his partner. According to the prosecutors, after killing Amber, Stephan spent the next day getting rid of the evidence. In court, it was revealed that Amber was stabbed repeatedly and had at least '32 wounds around her face and neck'.
The prosecutors also mentioned that this shocking incident took place after an argument between the couple. Stephan, following the crime he had allegedly committed, told a close friend that he would clean his bathroom, the place where Amber was found dead, after police forced their way into the flat.
The police arrived at the flat after Stephan told his cousin that he'd 'stabbed her in the neck twice'. Stephan Garner revealed that Amber was threatening him, something that a prosecutor also claimed, adding 'friction was not all one way in the relationship'. Amber was reportedly heard threatening Garner in an audio recording.
On the other hand, jurors were told that Amber O'Brien told her brother that she was not happy with Garner, and they fought over silly things, and she was struggling with his mood swings. In court, it was revealed that Amber and Stephan were together for three months, and she was nine weeks pregnant. In court, jurors were further informed that Garner wanted Amber to move in with him; however, she felt pressured. She moved in with him, but she claimed to her brother, 'something ain't fitting with me'.
A day before Stephan was arrested as a suspect in the murder of murdering his pregnant partner, Amber reportedly told her brother that she couldn't stand her partner and wouldn't stay in his flat. She reportedly left the flat but returned with him later. The chilling incident might have happened following that, and when police forcefully entered the flat the next day, they noticed an 'overpowering smell of bleach'.
Stephan has reportedly been interviewed twice by police, but he didn't make any comments both times. The Daily Mail reported that Stephan is expected to say that he didn't intend to cause physical harm to Amber and lost control of himself during that time. He is also allegedly expected to reveal that he was trying to leave the flat in the early hours of April 18, 2026, but Amber punched him and said that the babies were aborted.
