Late filmmaker, Yash Chopra’s wife, playback singer and producer, Pamela Chopra bid adieu to the world on April 20, 2023, at the age of 85. The matriarch of Yash Raj Films, Pamela was one of the leading figures of the celebrated banner and closely monitored its work with her valuable inputs.
According to multiple reports, Pamela was suffering from Pneumonia and was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati hospital for the past 15 days. She was put on a ventilator, but her health deteriorated, and she bid adieu to her loved ones. Dr Prahlad Prabhudesai shared the heartwrenching news with the indianexpress.com and said:
“She passed away today. She was on ventilator in Lilavati hospital for 15 days. She had pneumonia.”

Pamela was a frequent collaborator with her husband, Yash Chopra and was credited as the writer, costumes designer and singer in some of the popular YRF films. Her popular track, ‘Ghar Aaja Pardesi’ from the film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is still one of the most popular songs. Not just this, but the story of Yash Chopra’s 1976 film Kabhi Kabhie was written by her. Pamela was last seen in the YRF documentary, The Romantics where she spoke about her late husband, Yash Chopra’s journey and struggle in the Hindi film industry.
Pamela and Yash Chopra had an arranged marriage in 1970 in a traditional ceremony. The couple welcomed two sons, Aditya and Uday Chopra. Aditya, who is one of the most celebrated film producers and directors, is married to Rani Mukerji. Uday is an actor and film producer.

In an interview with PTI, Rani Mukerji spoke about her mother-in-law, Pamela Chopra and how she influenced Yash Chopra to write some beautiful parts for women in his films. In her words:
“I truly believe it had to do a lot with Pam Aunty’s (Pamela Chopra) influence in his life that drove him to write such beautiful parts for women. I have always been in awe of how he presented his heroines on screen, and secretly always wished to be the quintessential ‘Yash Chopra heroine’.”
