However, the veteran actor has seen many highs and lows in his life, and time and again, he has spoken about the tough phases of his life in multiple interviews and events.
Back in the 1990s, Amitabh Bachchan had started his business venture, Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited. However, the business went bankrupt, leaving Big B in a lot of debt. During an event held in 2017 to mark 40 years of Reliance Industries, Bachchan opened up about the bankruptcy and said:

However, Amitabh Bachchan was offered monetary help by the late Dhirubhai Ambani to save him from the mountains of debt. The Goodbye actor recalled how Dhirubhai Ambani asked his younger son, Anil Ambani to give him some money to help him get back on his feet. However, Big B refused to take any financial help as he felt that he wouldn't be able to accept his generosity. In his words:
“I was in crores of debt. All sources of income were closed and my house was raided by the government. My personal bank balance became zero. Dhirubhai got to know about this. Without telling anyone, he told his younger son and my dear friend Anil, ‘He’s going through a bad time, give him some money’. The amount that he wanted to give me would have solved all my problems. However, I felt that I wouldn’t be able to accept his generosity.”
During the same event, Amitabh Bachchan recalled another encounter with the Reliance founder, Dhirubhai Ambani and revealed why he respects him so much. Big B shared that once he attended a star-studded event as Anil Ambani's guest after he paid off all the loans. During the event, Dhirubhai called him in front of the guests and lauded his never-give-up attitude. Big B said:
“By God’s grace, times changed. I began getting work, and I paid off all of the loans. During one of the functions to which all the big businessmen and celebrities were invited, I was also present as the guest of Anil Ambani. While I sat quietly chitchatting with Anil, Dhirubhai called me in front of the guests and said, 'This boy had fallen down but got back on his own'. I respect him for that.”

It was during this difficult stage that Big B approached late filmmaker, Yash Chopra and asked him for a role. Soon, he was cast in the film, Mohabbatein, and the rest is history. Once during the India Today Unforgettables Stage in 2016, Amitabh opened up about the bankruptcy he faced and said that he didn't sit back and vent about it. Instead, the talented actor did what he was best at, and started looking for some movies. Talking about the same, he said:
“I had a huge financial failure in the corporation that I began. It went bankrupt, and it bankrupted me. You sit back and think ‘What can I do?’ and I said, ‘You are an actor. Go back to acting.’ So, that’s what I did. I went to Yash ji and said I am without a job. I need it.”
Around the same time, Amitabh Bacchan also started hosting the show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, and he continues to do so till date.
