Vikrant Massey has made a name for himself in Indian showbiz with his versatile performances on the silver screen. Lately, the actor has been riding high on the success of his film, 12th Fail, co-starring Medha Shankr. The Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial became the first film in 23 years to run in theatres for 25 consecutive weeks. Recently, Vikrant opened up about this professional feat and also shared about the ‘purple patch’ in his life.

Vikrant Massey talks about the ‘purple patch’ in his life

During an interview with the Hindustan Times, Vikrant Massey spoke at length about the incredible phase of his life, both professionally and personally. Along with the success of 12th Fail, the actor also embarked on a new journey in his life with his wife, Sheetal Thakur, as they welcomed their first child, Vardaan, in February 2024. Sharing that he has been going through a purple patch, Vikrant said:

“Last six months have been quite eventful and actually, quite a lot of things have happened. The success of 12th Fail, wrapping up The Sabarmati Report and it being touted as the much-anticipated release, and then fatherhood as well. I can easily say that I’m going through an incredible purple patch in my life.”

Vikrant Massey recalls how he celebrated 12th Fail’s milestone achievement 

Vikrant also recalled the moment he received a call from Vidhu Vinod Chopra after their film became the first film in more than two decades to run successfully in theatres. 12th Fail first captivated audiences on the silver screen, and then its popularity amongst the masses increased manifolds when it was released on Disney+. Sharing how he celebrated the milestone achievement of the film, Vikrant added:

“I got a call from Vinod sir about the news, and I celebrated this little achievement with my family. It’s an unprecedented feat in modern cinema. It’s a wonderful feeling, and everyone is super elated.”

Vikrant Massey says that Indian cinema lacks a ‘real and rooted’ genre

Vikrant, who has captivated audiences with his top-notch and versatile performances, also talked about the need for films belonging to the ‘real and rooted’ genre. He shared that due to the lack of such films on the big screen, their film, 12th Fail has such a long run in the cinemas. In his words:

“There’s a lack of such stories being told on the big screen and that’s precisely one of the reasons behind the longevity and popularity of our film. I strongly feel we should make more such films, which are more culturally rooted and closer home.”

Vikrant Massey’s professional front

After 12th Fail’s success, Vikrant Massey’s fans are waiting for the release of his thriller film, The Sabarmati Report, co-starring Raashii Khanna, which was initially supposed to be released in May 2024. However, now the film will reportedly be released in August 2024. Moreover, the actor also has films such as Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba, Yaar Jigri, Sector 36 and Blackout in his kitty.
