Vidya Balan is one of the most talented actresses in the Hindi film industry. The diva rules a zillion of hearts, courtesy of her jaw-dropping acting talents. Vidya made her acting debut at a young age in the television industry with the serial, Hum Paanch. Her acting debut in showbiz was with the Bengali movie, Bhalo Theko. Vidya received much love from the audience for her role in her first-ever Hindi film, Parineeta, in 2005, and since then, she has never had to look back. She will be next seen in the movie, Do Aur Do Pyaar. And ahead of that, she divulged details about both her personal and professional lives at an event.

Vidya Balan reveals she is asked to lose weight ahead of each film

Vidya Balan, at The Indian Express’ six-part series, Expresso, talked about the challenges that she generally faces due to her weight. The actress stated that before every film, she is asked by the producers and directors to shed some extra kilos. She added that she has been facing health challenges for a couple of years now, and it's just next to impossible for her to lose weight. Vidya can be quoted as saying:

"Before every film, I would get asked by the producers and directors if I could shed some weight. And I have been going through some health challenges for a long long time. So it was next to impossible.”

Vidya Balan tags the idea of losing weight for the sake of a film as 'ridiculous'

Going further in the same interview, Vidya Balan shared that she finds it ridiculous that actresses are asked to lose weight. She mentioned that it is beyond her thinking why people think that only thin can be desirable and acceptable. Sharing more about the same, Vidya shared that about 4-5 years ago, she had clearly mentioned to the directors and the producers that she would not change her physical features for the sake of a film. In Vidya's words:

“Finally four to five years ago, when the director said this to me, I said, ‘Please, I am not going to be the body you need me to be. You need to go to the body you need.’ I find this absolutely ridiculous. Because the part was written with me in mind. So why this insistence? What is this obsession with only thin being desirable and acceptable?”

Vidya Balan said she wanted to be thin while growing up

In the same interview, Vidya Balan mentioned that it's not like she never tried to lose weight; rather, she tried hard, but that didn't happen for some reason. The actress further mentioned that while growing up, she also wanted to be thin, but over the years, she learned how to accept and love herself, and the journey about the same was extremely important for her. Vidya stated:

"Not like I wasn’t trying to shed weight. Growing up I wanted to be thin. I began to love and accept myself. It has been a very important journey."

When Vidya Balan burst out in tears after receiving a mean comment from a masseuse about her body weight

Earlier, in an interview with lifestyle coach, Luke Coutinho, Vidya Balan recalled an incident when a comment about her body weight left her teary-eyed. The actress mentioned that once she went to get a body massage, and the masseuse asked her if she had put on weight again, which made the actress utterly upset, and she asked the masseuse not to comment on her body weight. Vidya added that after coming out of the place, she met her husband and just burst into tears.
