Born on December 24, 1997, in the Khandra village, Panipat district, Haryana, Indian Javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra, became the second Indian individual gold medalist. Before him, it was sport shooter, Abhinav Bindra, who had brought a gold medal for India at Beijing Olympics in 2008. The 23-year-old athlete, Neeraj had finished the tournament with his best attempt of 87.58m, ahead of Czech Republic's talented duo, Vitezslav Vesely and Jakub Vadlejch.
For the unversed, in 2016, Neeraj Chopra was appointed a Junior Commissioned Officer in the Indian Army with the rank of Naib Subedar, which is why his gold medal is a moment of immense pride for the Indian Army. The whole country celebrates Neeraj's gold medal with immense joy and is anxiously waiting to welcome the country's hero. Well, today's date, 'August 7, 2021', is now going to be written in bold letters in the history books, as on this day Neeraj Chopra bagged India's first gold medal in track and field in 100 years.

In an interview with India Today, gold medalist, Neeraj Chopra's mother, Saroj Bala, revealed that she is anxiously waiting to welcome her son back home. When the doting mother was asked about the preparations she and her family members are doing for Neeraj's welcome, the emotional mother revealed that Churma is Neeraj's favourite delicacy, and she is preparing the same for him. Saroj Bala said, "I am waiting for Neeraj Chopra to return from Tokyo. Churma is his favourite dish, and I will prepare it and feed him."
Going further in the interview, Neeraj Chopra's mother, Saroj Bala, also added that she was extremely confident that her son is going to win the gold medal in Tokyo Olympics. Well, no wonder the saying, 'a mother's heart knows everything' stands true. The proud mother said, "I was very confident that he would win the Gold medal."

Neeraj Chopra's mother, Saroj Bala, also talked about her son's interest in Javelin throw right from his childhood days. She also revealed the exact moment when Neeraj had tried his hand for the first time in this sport. Recalling the same, Saroj Bala stated that it was during her and Neeraj's visit to the Shivaji Stadium in Panipat, where he had seen some youngsters practising Javelin throw. After Neeraj had tried it for the first time, he had felt an instant connection with it.
The whole Khandra district is in a festive mood, from sweets being delivered to every single house of the district to youngsters dancing to the tunes of patriotic songs, the son of the soil, Neeraj Chopra, has lifted the spirit of every Indian across the country. Talking about the same, Saroj Bala said, "He was interested in sports right from his childhood. He was working hard for it. The entire village is having a festive spirit. We will welcome him grandly."
