TMKOC: Jennifer Mistry Wins Sexual Harassment Case Against Asit Modi, Has To Pay Rs. 25 Lakh Penalty

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is one of India's longest-running sitcoms, with over four thousand episodes on air. The show is still going strong TRP-wise, but there are certain inevitable friction between the cast and the crew of the show and its producer, Asit Kumarr Modi. Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, who essayed the role of 'Roshan Sodhi' in TMKOC in 2023, alleged Asit Modi and his two allies of sexually harassing her and not clearing her dues even after repeatedly asking for them. The case escalated to such an extent that Jennifer filed an FIR against the makers on sexual harassment charges.

Asit Modi is found guilty in the sexual harassment case filed by Jennifer Mistry

As per a report by TOI, Jennifer Mistry has won the sexual harassment case against Asit Modi. The verdict was declared on February 15, 2024, but Jennifer was instructed not to discuss it in the media. As per the verdict, Asit Modi was not only found guilty in the sexual harassment complaint but is also ordered to clear all of Jennifer's dues with an additional penalty compensation of Rs. 5 lakh. Taking about the verdict to ETimes, Jennifer added:

"The verdict is in my favour, confirming the allegations I made with strong evidence. This outcome surpasses what the police achieved in the past year."

Jennifer Mistry is not satisfied by the verdict of the court

Although the case went in Jennifer's favour and Asit Modi is held accountable for his actions, Jennifer is unsatisfied with the verdict. The actress revealed that the case was finalised on February 15, but she is yet to receive her payment and the additional penalty amount. She also added that the other two accused, Sohil and Jatin, weren't included in the verdict and were let loose, which further aggravated her disappointment. In Jennifer's words:

"I believe a woman's reputation matters most. It's been over 40 days, and I still haven't received my due amount, which I earned through hard work on the serial (TMKOC). Despite proving Mr Modi guilty of sexual harassment, no punishment has been given to all three accused. Sohil and Jatin weren't included in the verdict, which disappoints me. The local committee ordered my due amount, which I deserve. This verdict proves that my case was not fabricated and that I wasn't seeking cheap publicity. While I'm glad my harassment was recognised, I don't feel I've received proper justice yet. The verdict doesn't require Mr Modi, Sohil, and Jatin to apologise, despite their abuse towards me at work."

Jennifer Mistry quit TMKOC after 15 years on the grounds of sexual harassment

Jennifer Mistry quit TMKOC after working there for fifteen long years, the actress revealed that she was mentally and sexually tortured in the show by the producer, Asit Modi, project head, Sohail Ramani and executive producer, Jatin Bajaj. Jennifer revealed:

"I was asked to get off the sets four times by Sohail Ramani and Jatin Bajaj tried to stop my car by standing behind it and was not allowing to me to leave the sets. I told them that I worked on the show for 15 years, and they couldn't forcefully stop me, and while I was leaving Sohail threatened me. I have filed a case of sexual harassment against Asit Kumarr Modi, Sohail Ramani and Jatin Bajaj."
