It was on May 29, 2020, when iconic Punjabi singer, Sidhu Moose Wala was killed by a series of unidentified assailants, who fired 30 rounds at his car. The 28-year-old singer was brutally shot dead in broad daylight near Jawaharke village in Punjab's Mansa district.

As soon as the shocking news of Sidhu Moose Wala's assassination made its way across India and overseas, a lot of fingers were pointed at Punjab's police force. Not only this but protests against Punjab's ruling party were also held in different parts of the country.


One can imagine the magnitude of Sidhu Moose Wala's popularity across the world by the fact that weeks after his death, world-famous singer, Drake played Sidhu's songs, 295 and G-Shift, on his debut radio show, Table for One. Nigerian singer, Burna Boy came to India to meet Sidhu Moose Wala's parents and award-winning British rapper, Tion Wayne released a song named Healing as a tribute to Sidhu.

After the unfortunate demise of Punjabi singer, Sidhu Moose Wala, every single penny of the royalty that continues to be generated through his songs is going straight to his parents. For the unversed, as per YouTube's policy, artists earn approximately 1000 US dollars (Rs. 82,955) per million views on their videos. Since Sidhu Moose Wala's death, a series of songs have been released, and most of them have performed exceptionally well on YouTube, garnering millions of views.

Apart from YouTube, major streaming platforms like Spotify, Wynk Music, JioSaavn, and many others have similar royalty policies. As we all know, Sidhu Moose Wala's songs are available on almost every major streaming platform, one can imagine the huge royalty amount his parents are receiving after their son's death.

According to a report in DNA, Sidhu Moose Wala's parents, Charan Kaur and Balkaur Singh have received more than Rs. 2 crores through the royalty of his multiple songs on different platforms.

Sidhu Moose Wala was also charging more than Rs. 20 lakhs for his live shows and a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs in order to appear in public events. With a series of brand deals and advertisements with recognised labels, Sidhu Moose Wala was one of the highest-paid Punjabi singers in India.

There's no denying the fact that Sidhu Moose Wala's parents, Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur are still in immense pain, and no amount of money will minimise the pain of losing their son.
