Shark Tank India 3 brings IIT dropout, Azhar Iqubal, who is running a company worth crores

It will be interesting to see whether the makers of the show will suffer from a drop in TRPs or the inclusion of judges like Ritesh and Deepinder will provide a brand new angle to the show. However, amidst all the buzz around Shark Tank India 3, the show's makers announced another judge who will be joining the show’s third season.

The entrepreneur is an IIT dropout who has changed the entire news and media spectrum in India with his mobile application, which is worth Rs. 3700 crores. So, without further anticipation, let’s talk about the man of the moment, Azhar Iqubal, who is reportedly going to be a judge on Shark Tank India 3.

Meet Shark Tank India’s judge, Azhar Iqubal, co-founder and CEO of Inshorts

Azhar Iqubal is the CEO and co-founder of Inshorts, which is one of India's leading news apps. For the unversed, Azhar is an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi (IIT). However, what's truly fascinating about his entrepreneurial journey is the fact that he is an IIT dropout. Yes! You read it right. He is one of the few inspirational IIT dropouts in our country, who went on to create a huge name for themselves.

How Azhar Iqubal co-founded Inshorts?

It was back in 2013 when Azhar Iqubal, who was studying at IIT, Delhi, and his classmates, Anunay Arunav and Deepit Purkayastha, decided to drop out of their college. The three friends went on an entrepreneurial journey that made them one of the most influential young entrepreneurs in the country. However, just like every business, Azhar and his friends initiated a Facebook page with the name, News in Shorts.

Talking about the concept behind their business idea was simple but revolutionary, as they thought of providing news in a short format. Well, the idea was an instant hit as almost everyone wanted to know more in less time, and Azhar’s News in Shorts was catering to the needs of fast-paced citizens perfectly.

The way they summarised the complex news stories into concise and easy-to-digest 60-word summaries made a massive impact on the news industry. This approach was new and much-needed for people, who didn’t want to read lengthy articles.

The people with open arms accepted the idea, and in the same year, after their Facebook page’s massive success, Azhar Iqubal and his team built a smartphone application with the name, Inshorts. However, Azhar gained a massive boost when the iPhone accepted their news application and helped them expand their accessibility. It was a huge success, as everyone knows that it’s not easy to feature in the list of applications that can run on iOS.

Inshorts’ co-founder, Azhar Iqubal penned a heartfelt note while announcing his debut as a 'Shark' on Shark Tank India 3

On October 14, 2023, Azhar Iqubal took to his Instagram handle and posted four pictures from the sets of Shark Tank India 3, in which he could be seen posing alongside fellow judges. The entrepreneur looked super-happy as he penned a long note about his journey so far and shared his excitement about featuring on Shark Tank India 3 as one of the judges. An excerpt from his heartfelt note could be read as:

"On Shark Tank India Season 3, I want to tell the youth of India that where you come from and whether you have a degree or not does not matter; what matters is whether you have hunger, discipline and focus. And if you have it in you, I am here to support you in fulfilling your entrepreneurial dream."

1.2 crore Indians use Azhar Iqubal’s Inshorts, and it is worth Rs. 3700 crores

Not everyone is aware of the fact that Azhar Iqubal’s news application, Inshorts is currently worth Rs. 3700 crores. It is incredible the way this Noida-based company has become one of the biggest names in the news space. There was a time when Inshorts was not reportedly getting a lot of traction on their application in the initial phase, but it was Azhar and his team’s belief that made them reach a point which is a dream for many companies in this space.

After the immense success of Inshorts, Azhar Iqubal also ventured into a company by the name, Public, which is a location-based information app. As of now, it reportedly has over 50 million active users. It’s inspiring the way Azhar and his friends have made their way to success despite leaving a prestigious institute like IIT. His success story clearly speaks volumes of a person’s capability if they’re truly passionate about their goals.
