‘Nepotism’ – a word we have frequently heard in the headlines and social media and the never-ending rage around the issue continues come what may. Just as much as struggling is a part of the career, nepotism and favouritism are also omnipresent in each and every sphere of life. Once again, there’s a rise in the debate around nepotism and privilege as Sachin Tendulkar’s son, Arjun Tendulkar bagged a bid by Mumbai Indians at the Indian Premier League 2021 auction. Often regarded as the God of cricket in our nation, Sachin needs no introduction but now that Arjun was bought by Mumbai Indians, the netizens are divided into two teams, one criticizing the selection and calling it an example of nepotism and the other in support of the selection, waiting to see junior Tendulkar playing. (Also Read: Aryan Khan Fixing His Hair At IPL Auction 2021 Reminds Netizens Of His Father Shah Rukh Khan [VIDEO])

Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of the franchise, clarified that Arjun Tendulkar’s selection was purely based on his skills and said that since junior Tendulkar is focused on his career, he’s going to evolve with the passage of time. Mahela was quoted as saying by crictracker.com, “We’ve looked at it purely on a skill basis. I mean, there is going to be a big tag on his head because of Sachin. But, luckily, he’s a bowler, not a batsman. So, I think Sachin will be very proud if he could bowl like Arjun. I think it’s going to be a learning process for Arjun. He just started playing for Mumbai, and now the franchise. He will learn the ropes; he will evolve. He’s still young. A very focused young man. We have to give him time and hopefully not put a lot of pressure on him either. Just let him evolve and work his way up, and that’s what we’re there to help him to do.” Akash Ambani also spoke about Arjun's selection in the team. (Also Read: Sara Ali Khan Shares A Picture Of Her Brother, Ibrahim Ali Khan Wearing A Jersey Of His Nickname)

In a throwback interview with PTI, Sachin Tendulkar had spoken about how he wants his son, Arjun Tendulkar to find "reasons to wake up every morning and chase his dreams" irrespective of the circumstances. Sachin had said, "In sports, nothing is guaranteed so whatever opportunities you are provided, you need to go out there and give your best and make the most of it. This is one platform that I feel people will be following you, your performances and if you are doing well, you will be on top of the world. As long as he continues to be passionate about cricket and in love with the game, that's what matters to me. There are going to be highs and lows and he should find reasons to wake up in the morning and chase his dreams. His dream is to play cricket and do something special."

Sachin Tendulkar is the son of famous Marathi poet and professor, Ramesh Tendulkar and his impact on the legendary batsman's thought process was significantly huge. Revealing what his father had told him once that he will pass on to Arjun too, Sachin had recalled, "My father once told me: 'You know as long as you don't find shortcuts and prepare yourself before any match, then results will follow'. I will ask him (Arjun) to do that. Don't worry about anything else. Just go out there and do what you are good at. If he is a good team man and good human being above all, that will be much more important to me." (Also Read: Anurag Kashyap's Daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap Talks About Her Boyfriend And Their Relationship Issues)
