However, it looked like Kartik Aaryan was hurt after Sara Ali Khan discussed their relationship on Karan Johar's chat show, Koffee With Karan 8. After this, he expressed how a person should 'respect the relationship they had'. Recently, Kartik turned a year older, and Sara penned a heartfelt wish for him.
On November 22, 2023, Sara took to her Instagram handle and shared a picture of her throwback post on her IG story. She also added an unseen picture, wherein Kartik was seen giving her an iPhone, whose cover had some cash, while Sara was making a hand gesture. Atop it, Sara penned a birthday note to wish her once-lover, Kartik. She wrote:
"Happiest birthday Kartik."

When Sara Ali Khan appeared on the chat show, Koffee With Karan 8, Karan Johar asked her whether 'being friends with her ex, Kartik Aaryan, was easy. To this, Sara clearly stated, "It isn’t always easy." She even went on to say that when she is involved with someone professionally or romantically, she is totally invested, and it does affect you. However, in the end, you have to rose beyond that.

Reacting to the same, Kartik shared his opinion with Anupama Chopra of Film Companion. He felt that a relationship involves two people and they should not talk about the same. He added that people, after parting ways, should respect the relationship they shared. He was quoted as saying:
"Ek cheez mujhe lagti hai – relationship agar do logo ki hai toh dusre insaan ko bhi woh baatein nehi karni chahiye. Hum sab ko apni relationship ki respect karni chahiye.
Kartik further added he had never spoken about his relationship with anyone. The actor also added that he expects the same from his partner. He shared that when a person is in a relationship, they do not think that it will end, and one should always respect the time spent and the moment. He was quoted as saying:
"I expect the same from my [partner]. It’s not good for someone to speak about the relationship. If things don’t work out… par jab aap saath hote ho kisike toh you don’t imagine it to be like that. You don’t imagine ke yeh khatam ho jayega. I think you should respect that time, that moment. I think you should respect yourself also. Aap jab woh baat karte ho toh aisa nahin hai ke samne wala ek hee insaan ke baare mein woh soch raha hota hai, woh dono ke baare mein woh soch raha hota hai."
