Sushmita Sen found her Roh-mance in model, Rohman Shawl and even her daughters, Renee and Alisah share a beautiful bond with him. When Alisah turned 11 in August 2020, Rohman posted a heartfelt note for his ‘Gabdu’. He had captioned a picture with Alisah as “How this little #munchkin changed my way of being forever!! Thank you @sushmitasen47 for giving me the gift of LIFE. I love you my Gabdu. India's first-ever Miss Universe, actress, entrepreneur and also, mother of two beautiful daughters, Sushmita Sen had embraced motherhood for the first time by adopting a beautiful daughter, Renee when she was just 25. She welcomed her second daughter, her sunshine Alisah in their lives in 2010. On Mother’s Day 2020, Sushmita had talked about how it is said that a being a mother is a thankless job. Sharing an array of pictures, Sushmita had written, “Happpyyyyy Mother’s Day to all us nurturers!!! They say “being a mother is a thankless job”...and I say, she/ he has life’s gratitude!!! When Sushmita Sen had attended an event at Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Hyderabad, she had spoken about how adopting her two daughters, Renee and Alisah, was not an act of charity but a way to protect herself. Sharing that she might not be the biological mother of her daughters but she has given birth to them from the heart, Sushmita had said, “In the natural birth, the mother and the child connect through the umbilical cord but in adoption, the mother and the child are connected by this higher power, a connection that you cannot cut off. I have had the privilege of experiencing it twice. To become a mother who has given birth from the heart. I have not missed a day of feeling the joy of motherhood.”
Expressing how proud she is of her 24-year-old self for making ‘the wisest decision’ to adopt, Sushmita Sen had remarked, “The wisest decision I made at the age of 24 was to become a mother. It stabilised my life. People think it was a great act of charity and wonderful action but it was self-preservation. It was me protecting myself. Doing something that encompasses your heart, your calling always makes sure that you stay true to your DNA and who you are. Yes, the tough part was to do that at the age of 24-year-old when I was at the top of my game in my career. Being an actress is a challenging job. It is a very self-centered job. You have to be all about yourself. Your vanity has to be at its highest for you to be successful. But I am proud of the 24-year-old because I could have delayed the process, ignore the calling but I didn’t do that.”
In 2019, Sushmita Sen’s youngest one, Alisah had written an essay on adoption which made her mom teary-eyed. Sushmita had posted a video of Alisah, reciting her essay, which began as “I believe that you should adopt a child from the orphanage since you will have happiness in your family. After all, a child must have the right to live. When you adopt, you give life in such as way that you save one. There are people who have adopted kids out of sheer love, not to make a name. Sushmita Sen who adopted two baby girls and Sunny Leone who adopted one girl. So please be like these inspirational people who inspire almost the whole world to adopt a child. So adopt a child but out of love.” Proud Rohman Shawl had commented on Sushmita’s post, “My Gabdu!
