It was April 1, 2016, when everyone thought the news of Balika Vadhu actress, Pratyusha Banerjee’s suicide is an April Fool prank, but sadly it wasn’t. Pratyusha hanged herself at her home and committed suicide, which was reported to be because of her issues in personal life. Ever since the news of Pratyusha’s suicide came out, expressions of shock and solace began pouring in from her family, fans and friends from the industry. Kamya Panjabi was a very close and dear friend of Pratyusha Banerjee and she was heartbroken when her best friend committed suicide. Kamya confirmed the same to DNA and was then quoted as saying, “I am not in the right frame of mind.” Pratyusha Banerjee’s suicide raised many questions like ‘Could her life be saved if she had asked for help?’, ‘Could she be stopped from taking this drastic step if someone had tried to show her the light in her darkness phase?’. Maybe or maybe not. But it definitely left her family and friends wondering what they could have done to save Pratyusha’s life!
On April 1, 2019, three years have passed since Pratyusha Banerjee's unfortunate suicide and her close friends, Kamya Panjabi and Vikas Gupta reminisce about her fondly. Sharing some candid photos with Pratyusha, Kamya wrote, “I know u are gone but i kept denying it... i wanted u to stay... but now may be its time to let u go.... its time to say goodbye... its time u go...!!!! But before that i want u to know that there will be a piece of you in me always and i m grateful for that... whatever someone u become wherever u are in the world i m sending you love! You are my friend till the end...... Goodbye!!!”
Bigg Boss 11 finalist, Vikas Gupta also shared his reaction and feelings when he received the news of his close friend, Pratyusha Banerjee’s demise. He wrote, “Today is 1st of April and Everytime I hear it's April fool's day instead if smiling which I did, I think of you #Pratyusha I remember the call which I thought was a prank call and it reminds me of the 20 mins I sat alone looking at you.no one was there. Mak was running around outside trying to sort things and figure things (Good Man) others were yet to know that you have gone. You were a star that left our universe too soon. This world is cruel and every year i learn more. I am sorry i wasn't there when you needed. Yes you never asked for help but this world is a little like that even when help is asked no one comes forward. We see signs but we avoid them. I really hope you are in a better place. May you rest in peace. Will always remember you even if it's on the day you left. Thankyou for touching my life Thankyou for always making me realise and remind me the reality we live in. Love you loads.”
Pratyusha Banerjee’s on-screen mother-in-law in Balika Vadhu and dear friend, Smita Bansal too penned down a heartfelt note on her third death anniversary. She wrote, ““Yaaron dosti badi hi haseen hai, yeh na ho toh kya phir bolo yeh zindagi hai, koi toh ho raazdaar , begaraz tera ho yaar...” That night at #wtf, middle of the night you started humming this song, @nehamarda joined in, And then I joined in and we sang without caring who was listening n who wasn’t, den suddenly the three of us forgot the lyrics at the same point and burst out laughing, in that laughter we heard a voice continuing the song it was one of the waiters at #wft, and then one by one the guests sitting at other tables started joining in and it was as if the whole universe was singing “YAARON”... that was one of the most memorable and the most cherished night of my life... now whenever wherever I hear this song I reminisce that night and I have a smile on my face, my throat gets chocked ,I think of you, I miss u and forever will... maybe that’s why they say #Memories are connected to #Music... for me this will #forever be our #song... miss you #Pratyusha...@nehamarda @rashmi5690”. Last year in 2018, Kamya Panjabi questioned the judiciary and showed her angst towards its slow pace. Captioning a picture with her BFF, Pratyusha Banerjee, Kamya had written, “Two years and no trial also as yet! Don’t laugh, I am not giving up. Yes, your parents are miserable but ‘I have complete faith in our judicial system’, that’s what they say, right? To hell with that. Value your life because you have no value here. People forget and move on and you better not rest in peace.”
The Shakti — Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki star’s post could be further read as, “Please don’t write about my friendship with her, please don’t write RIP here. If you want to do something then please don’t be blind in love, don’t give up on yourself, fight back, stop domestic violence... just stop stop stop! Nothing and nobody is worth your life! Because when you die, there are a hell lot of people who die with you! Breathe, stay alive! Life is beautiful.”
On the other hand, Vikas Gupta shared a beautiful picture of his late friend, Pratyusha Banerjee and tweeted, “Today I lost a person I really liked. It’s been two years. People will forget because life moves on, we all move on. Your death taught a lot value of life.
