However, reports of trouble in their marital life had started doing the rounds when Samantha had dropped ‘Akkineni’ from her name on her Instagram handle and Twitter handle. Not only that, her absence from her father-in-law, Nagarjuna's 62nd birthday bash, did not go unnoticed as well.
Putting an end to all the speculations of their separation, on October 2, 2021, Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu had taken to their respective social media handles to announce their divorce. Their joint statement could be read as ''To all our well-wishers. After much deliberation and thought Chay and I have decided to part ways as husband and wife to pursue our own paths. We are fortunate to have a friendship of over a decade that was the very core of our relationship which we believe will always hold a special bond between us.”

After confirming the reports of their split, fans were left heartbroken, and they are still hoping for a reconciliation. However, a report by Pinkvilla suggests that while Samantha continues to stay at their home in Hyderabad, Chaitanya reportedly moved out into a hotel, after deciding to part ways. A source told the publication, ''Naga Chaitanya has been living alone in a posh hotel in Hyderabad since a month after he and Samantha decided mutually to divorce.''
Going further in the interaction, the source revealed the reason as to why Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya were tight-lipped about their divorce. The source added, ''Chay and Sam both waited for Love Story to release in theatres so that they can announce their separation."

After Samantha and Naga Chaitanya had announced their divorce, reports had started doing the rounds in the media that the actress was offered alimony of Rs. 200 crores. However, according to a report in India Today, Samantha had declined the offer. A source close to her had revealed that Samantha had refused the alimony and did not want to take a single penny from Chaitanya or his family.
The source had further revealed that though Samantha is heartbroken, she is trying to bounce back by concentrating on her work. The source had said, "It's not easy for Samantha to get up and go to work every day. She is massively heartbroken. But she doesn't want any project that she is associated with to suffer because of her personal life. She has always been a thorough professional and continues to be, putting up a brave front every day. It's not in her to be unprofessional."
