The iconic Indian cricketer, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is fondly known as ‘Captain Cool’ by his billions of fans across the globe. It is often stated that MS Dhoni is one of the greatest cricketers in the cricket's history. However, while on the professional front, Dhoni has broken numerous records, won tons of trophies, and achieved several accolades, he always kept his personal life away from the spotlight.
For the unversed, MS Dhoni tied the marital knot with Sakshi Singh Rawat on July 4, 2010, in an intimate wedding ceremony in Uttarakhand’s scenic city, Dehradun. As per the reports, the much-in-love couple was introduced to each other by a mutual friend and after a series of meetings, they fell in love with one another. After almost five years of their happy married life, on February 6, 2015, MS Dhoni and Sakshi welcomed their first child, an adorable daughter whom they named, Ziva.

It was back in 2019 when Mahendra Singh Dhoni was invited to grace an event organised by Mastercard India after their collaboration to empower small merchants with digital payments. During the course of the event, MS Dhoni was invited to the stage, and the cricketer talked about many things. However, one topic that caught everyone’s attention was when MS Dhoni started talking about his daughter, Ziva Singh Dhoni.
The cricketer was asked to reveal the reason why he chose the name, Ziva for his baby girl. In response to it, Mahendra Singh Dhoni shared that he picked the name from the famous American television show, NCIS. The cricketer shared that in the show, there was a female character named Ziva David, and he really liked it because it was a short name. The doting dad further explained that it is a Hebrew name and the meaning of the name Ziva is light. Then, opening up about the same, he said:
"It (Ziva) is a Hebrew name. Basically, it means light. We picked it from a serial. There used to be a serial named NCIS, I don’t know how many of you have watched it. There was a character named Ziva in that. I somehow always liked short names, which are not very heavy."
