Sundar Pichai’s love story is a simple tale of two souls who met in college and fell in love. If you didn’t know this already, Sundar Pichai came from an extremely humble background. He was always a simple man, even when he was living in a little flat in Chennai with his family when he was young, there was no TV in the house. Also, there was no car parked outside his home. So, Sundar Pichai began to value things from a very early stage. Naturally, this spilt over into his personal life as well.
It was when he was in college, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, to be precise, that Sundar Pichai met his then-future wife, Anjali. Back then, he was pursuing a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Sundar and Anjali were from the same batch and were even in the same class. Initially, the duo were just friends. They kept it that way for a long time, as they seemed to enjoy each other’s friendship and companionship.
Gradually, as they spent more and more time together as friends, Sundar Pichai and Anjali realised that certain feelings had developed in their hearts. When they entered their final year of engineering, Sundar had proposed to Anjali, and she said yes! Once in an old interview, Sundar Pichai recalled how difficult it was for him and Anjali to be in a relationship without smartphones. Recalling the way he used to meet Anjali in her all-girls hostel, the business executive had shared:
"I met Anjali at IIT-K and she was my classmate. Just to go get someone at the girl’s hostel, you had to walk in the front and request someone to call them. And they’d go in and loudly say – Anjali, Sundar is here. It wasn’t exactly a pleasant experience."

After college got over, things weren’t so rosy! Sundar Pichai had to leave for the USA to study further. Meanwhile, Anjali was in India, and because Sundar was not financially independent back then, the two could not talk to each other about marriage. So, Sundar and Anjali did not speak to each other for six long months! But did that take away from their relationship? Of course not! In fact, staying away for such a long time brought them closer to each other. Absence does make the heart grow fonder!
After being in a long-distance relationship for some years, Anjali also left for the USA. Meanwhile, Sundar Pichai had bagged a job with a semiconductor firm in the US. Now, with a secure job in hand, he felt that now was the right time to marry the love of his life, Anjali. The gentleman that he is, Sundar then asked Anjali’s parents for permission before tying the marital knot. As expected, Sundar and Anjali's respective families agreed to their marriage. After their wedding, the newly wedded couple went on to stay in the USA.
People often say that Anjali Pichai is Sundar Pichai’s lucky charm. Initially, Sundar was offered the post of CEO by Microsoft. Twitter and Yahoo also contacted him! He was contemplating leaving Google after he received such enticing offers. However, the doting wife, Anjali, was the one who advised Sundar against it. He decided to listen to her and is today, as we can all see, the successful CEO of the biggest company in the world, Google.

The stunning couple, Sundar Pichai and Anjali Pichai live happily in Los Altos Hills. Their home has been tastefully designed by Robert Swatt, a member of the famous Swatt Miers architectural group.
However, despite being so rich and successful in their respective professions, Sundar and Anjali are often said to be living quite a low-profile life. The couple is also the proud parents to two children, a girl and a boy named Kavya and Kiran.
On December 2, 2022, Sundar Pichai was bestowed with India’s third-highest civilian award in San Francisco. The Google CEO received the prestigious award from India’s Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu. While receiving the Padma Bhushan in the presence of his loved ones and family, Sundar thanked the government for honouring him with such a special title under the Trade and Industry category. Recalling the experience of receiving the Padma Bhushan, Sundar had penned some words in his blog, and it could be read as:
"India is a part of me and I carry it with me wherever I go. I was fortunate to grow up in a family that cherished learning and knowledge, with parents who sacrificed a lot to make sure I had opportunities to explore my interests. I am deeply grateful to the Indian government and the people of India for this immense honour. It is incredibly meaningful to be honoured in this way by the country that shaped me."
