South Indian beauty, Kajal Aggarwal had gotten hitched to a businessman, Gautam Kitchlu on October 30, 2020, and their first picture had taken the internet by storm. For the wedding, Kajal had donned a red Anamika Khanna lehenga with golden embroidery and had paired it with an onion-pink organza dupatta, with the cut-work border over her head. The handsome groom, Gautam had looked dapper in a white bandhgala sherwani by Anita Dongre with an onion-pink doshala.

In a conversation with Vogue India, Kajal Aggarwal opened up about her love story with hubby, Gautam Kitchlu. Sharing how they got to know each other through mutual friends, she said, “Gautam and I dated for about three years, and then we were friends for seven. We have progressed in every stage of being friends and been very important in each other’s lives.” Sharing how lockdown made them realise that the two wants to live together forever, Kajal added, “We were used to meeting all the time. Whether it was a social party or an important professional endeavour, the other one would always show up. So, amidst the lockdown, when we didn’t see each other for a few weeks—at best, we would catch a glimpse behind a mask at a grocery store—we realised that we wanted to be together.”

She then shared how Gautam confessed his feeling for her and their heartfelt, emotional conversation about getting married. She said, “Gautam is understated when it comes to romance. He’s not the filmy sort, and I am grateful for it because I have enough of that in my films. So, it wasn’t a proposal with all of the jazz, but it was an extremely heartfelt, emotional conversation between us. He was so authentic about his feelings and the way he expressed how he wanted to have a future with me; I couldn’t be more sure about spending my life with him!”

Kajal recalled how it was in April 2020 that her main man, Mr Kitchlu had gone to meet her parents and in two months they had gotten engaged in an intimate ceremony at home. Kajal had opted for a sunshine-hued saree by Manish Malhotra. Sharing how he helped her during the time of pandemic, Kajal said, “Manish Malhotra was the first designer to open his store for me and asked his karigars to make my sari at a time when everything was shut.” (Don't Miss: Shaheer Sheikh Shares A Shirtless Workout Video, Alleged GF, Ruchikaa Kapoor Reacts Like This)

Kajal also shared that as stepping out is restricted, she prepared for her wedding virtually. She said, “There was no going out physically—everything was done over WhatsApp and Zoom calls. The designers—Anita Dongre, Anamika Khanna, Varun Bahl, Falguni Shane Peacock—were so supportive. They sent me swatches at the nascent stages, shipped my outfit home for fittings, and made everything so seamless. My stylist Ami Patel helped through the process and styled my entire trousseau.”

Sharing the details of her pre-wedding festivities from puja, mehendi to chunni, Kajal narrated, “To start on an auspicious note, we had a Radha Krishna satsang in my house.” Then sharing details of her mehendi function, she said, “I was pretty clear that I wanted to enjoy the main celebration when the others were getting henna applied. So, I got my mehandi applied a day prior with my girls around me.” Recalling the chunni ritual, where the bride’s in-laws cover her head with a dupatta, Kajal shared that it was Gautam’s brother and brother-in-law, who performed the ritual.”

Talking about her wedding and pheras, Kajal said, “My side of the family is typical Punjabi, and my husband is half-Punjabi, half-Kashmiri. We wanted to make it very special and tried to incorporate both sides of our rituals and culture. I wanted to pay tribute by adopting this beautiful ritual that sees the bride and groom placing a beetle leaf laced with jiggery and fenugreek paste on each other’s foreheads.” (Recommended Read: Imtiaz Ali Shares Photos With His Daughter, Ida Ali And Snow Castles From Their Trip To Antarctica)
