This is exactly what happened between Jelena, i.e., Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. The two teenage celebrities who were considered the 'it couple' in 2010, had an on-and-off relationship that lasted eight years.
Despite their tumultuous past, their bond was more than just a teenage fling. However, Justin and Selena finally ended their relationship for good in 2018. While Jelena fans kept hoping that the duo would rekindle their relationship as always, to their surprise, they did not. Later that year, Justin began dating Hailey Baldwin, and they got married in September 2018.

The Canadian singer, Justin Bieber had taken to his official Instagram account to announce the news of his engagement. On July 10, 2018, he penned a long caption for the post where he mentioned that Hailey is the love of his life and how well they complement each other. Among other things, Justin also mentioned that they got engaged on the ‘seventh day of the seventh month, the number seven is the number of spiritual perfections’.
While Justin Bieber was busy celebrating his new fiancee, Hailey Baldwin, there were reports which stated that his ex, Selena Gomez remained unbothered by this new announcement. It was reported that she partied with her friends in New York City. A source revealed to E! News:
"Selena was surprised an engagement happened this quickly but not surprised Justin would do something like this knowing who he is. At the end of the day though she doesn't really care. She had tried again to make it work that last time and it didn't work out."

On July 11, 2018, Selena was spotted indulging in some retail therapy in New York City, just a day after Justin had professed his love for Hailey on social media. Selena's seemingly casual outfit included a black t-shirt featuring the words ‘ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE’ on the ruffled front pocket. While it's unclear whether the shirt was a nod to her relationship with Justin, suggesting that it wasn't strong enough to survive, or if it was simply a personal mantra to help her cope with the news of his engagement, the shirt choice certainly raised some eyebrows.
On the very same day, she was again pictured while she was roaming in what seemed like a park. She looked exactly opposite to what the popular narrative regarding her mood back then used to be. The American singer looked rather gloomy, and her eyes were all puffed up, maybe due to all the crying after the news of her ex-boyfriend, Justin’s engagement. We are not sure if Selena had a swollen face due to bawling her eyes out, but Cosmopolitan reported that as per a fan account, the singer was trying to hold back her sneeze when she was photographed.
