Amitabh Bachchan’s name has been linked with many actresses of his generation, including Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi, Smita Patil, and many others. However, his love triangle with Jaya Bhaduri and Rekha is the one which grabbed the headlines the most number of times. For the unversed, Amitabh married Jaya in 1973, yet as per many reports, he was involved in an extra-marital relationship with his co-star, Rekha. And it was only after Jaya's ultimatum to Amitabh that he stopped working with Rekha in any more films. However, in one classic film of that era, Silsila, when we get to see Amitabh, Jaya and Rekha appearing together onscreen.
In the film, Silsila, we can see the onscreen portrayal of the off-screen love triangle between Amitabh, Jaya and Rekha. While Jaya played the role of Amitabh's reel wife, Rekha was his love interest in the film. Now, in an old video from the same film, was shared by a Reddit user on the discussion platform. In the short clip, the famous scene of a face-off between Rekha and Jaya, wherein they talk about protecting their love, is seen. However, the Reddit user claimed that the two gorgeous ladies were not showing their acting mettle. Well, this was quite a hint at their alleged rift between each other in real life regarding their love, Amitabh.

Soon, many netizens started reacting to it. While one netizen commented, "Surprised that Jaya agreed to humiliate herself like this. The other two are scum anyway", another penned, "Sounds so insidious." One more netizen stated:
"This movie baffles me like no other! How the hell did yash chopra get the three actors to agree to do this. Were they thinking that no one would know? This would never happen in today’s times! Its fascinating IMO."

Initially, the director of the film, Yash Chopra had shared his idea with Amitabh Bachchan, and he immediately agreed to do the film. But Yash wanted Rekha to play the role of his girlfriend. Thus, when the news started coming out, Jaya, as per her ultimatum to her husband, was alleged to make a comeback onscreen. However, amid all this, and many more such trial and error with other leading actresses, Yash was still unhappy about the cast. Thus, the director then shared his wish to cast Jaya in Amitabh's wife's role and Rekha as his girlfriend. After listening to Yash, Amitabh kept quiet for five minutes and told him he should persuade Jaya to take up the project.

But convincing Jaya was a difficult task for Yash. Moreover, Jaya was also not at all interested in the film. Thus, it took a lot of effort by Yash to even make Jaya listen to the script. Throughout the narration, Jaya remained disinterested, but the film's last scene moved Jaya. Although the film was about an extra-marital affair, the climax showed a ‘nuptial reunion’. Here, the husband, ‘Amit’, comes back to his wife, ‘Shobha’, lying unconscious on a hospital bed and says, “I have come back to you forever.” Listening to this, she accepted the role. And the rest is history.
