One of the biggest superstars of the Indian film industry, Amitabh Bachchan needs no introduction. The actor par excellence is hailed as the ‘Shahenshah of Bollywood ‘and ‘Star of the Millenium’. In a film career spanning over five decades, Amitabh is still ruling the silver screen with his powerful presence.
Amitabh didn’t taste success initially, and it was after 12 back-to-back flops that the actor tasted success with the blockbuster film, Zanjeer. It was in 1990 when Amitabh won his first National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance as a mafia don in the cult classic, Agneepath. Every actor in the film did complete justice to their roles. However, it was actor, Tinnu Anand, who played the role of ‘Nathu’ in the film, who gave a complex to Amitabh.
In a recent chat with Radio Nasha, Tinnu Anand recalled how he was asked to hurl abuses in the film by the director, Mukul Anand, who also happened to be Tinnu’s nephew. Revealing when he asked about his role, Mukul told him that he just had to keep abusing in the film. Stating how Amitabh got a complex while hearing Tinnu abuse, the latter stated:
“Even Amitabh Bachchan got a complex because main toh gaaliyan nikal deta tha and they were hearing it for the first time in cinema,”
In the same interaction, Tinnu also revealed that Amitabh’s parents loved watching his films during the early stages. When they came to watch Agneepath, Amitabh would stand near the projectionist and mute the audio whenever Tinnu came on screen. In his words:
“Amitabh used to be very careful. He would stand near the projectionist and whenever he would see me coming, he would say sound band kar.”
Tinnu Anand had directed Amitabh Bachchan in the classic film, Shahenshah. During the making of the film, Amitabh was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. In the same interview, Tinnu mentioned that when he reached Mysore, he learned that Amitabh got himself injured on the sets of his film. Tinnu mentioned that the condition even made it difficult for Amitabh to sip water. The legendary actor was already in a near-death situation.
What do you think about Tinnu Anand’s revelation? Let us know.
