Jaya Bachchan, a name that needs no introduction, had made her acting debut in 1963 with Satyajit Ray’s Bengali film, Mahanagar. Eight years later, she had made her Bollywood debut with Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film, Guddi. Her spectacular performances in Uphaar, Koshish, Kora Kagaz, Zanjeer, Abhimaan, Sholay, Mili etc., had garnered her a lot of applause. Jaya ji is the winner of nine Filmfare awards and in 1992, the Government of India bestowed her with the Padma Shri.

Jaya Bhaduri had become Mrs Bachchan after she had tied the knot with Amitabh Bachchan on June 3, 1973. Proud parents of Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan, doting grandparents of Navya Naveli Nanda, Agastya Nanda and Aaradhya Bachchan and parents-in-law of businessman, Nikkhil Nanda and actress, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amit ji and Jaya ji are the power couple of Bollywood. As Jaya ji turned a year older today, her doting son, Abhishek penned an adorable wish for her.
On April 9, 2021, Jaya Bachchan turned 73 and a few hours back, Abhishek Bachchan took to his IG handle and shared a beautiful throwback picture of Jaya ji, looking gorgeous with her luscious long braid and winged-eye liner. Along with the picture, Abhishek wrote, “Happy birthday maa! Love you.” On the picture, Jaya ji’s granddaughter, Navya Naveli Nanda commented with love-struck emoticons and told her mamu, Abhishek that she would be “stealing this” picture.
Last year, on Jaya ji’s 72nd birthday, Abhishek Bachchan had expressed what his mother means to him. Informing that Jaya ji was stuck in Delhi due to the COVID-19 lockdown while the entire family was in Mumbai, Abhishek had written a ‘miss you’ birthday note for his mother. Sharing a smiling picture of Jaya ji, Abhishek had written, “As every child will tell you, their favourite word is... MA! Happy Birthday, Ma. Although you are away in Delhi due to the lockdown and we all are here in Mumbai, know that we are thinking of you and carry you in our hearts. I love you!”

Over the years, Abhishek Bachchan has expressed his immense respect and gratitude towards his mother, Jaya Bachchan, who has been with him in his life’s most important moments. However, the actor had revealed in his interview with the Hindustan Times that his mother gangs-up with his wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan whenever he fights-up with his wifey. He had revealed, “Ma and Ash gang up against me and they keep rattling on in Bengali. (Laughs) Mom knows the language because she is Bengali and Aishwarya had worked with Rituda (the late Rituparno Ghosh) in Chokher Bali, so she also can speak the language quite well. So whenever they have to team up against me, they start talking in Bengali.”
On Koffee With Karan season 6, Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan Nanda had commented on their mom, Jaya Bachchan’s hysterical videos of lashing out at the media, every now and then. Abhishek finds the videos amusing and always prepares for a showdown when the whole family goes out together. Though Jaya ji has grown much more comfortable with the paparazzi, it’s the fans who ask for selfies are the problem. Defending her mom, Shweta had said, “She gets very claustrophobic when there are too many people around her. She also doesn’t like it when people take her pictures without asking her. She comes from that school of thought.”
