At D23, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed Inde Navarrette as 'Rogue', alongside Sadie Sink as 'Jean Grey', Kit Connor as 'Cyclops', Samara Weaving as 'Emma Frost', Maya Boyd as 'Storm' and Christopher Abbott as 'Professor X'. Adam Driver has also joined the film as the villainous 'Mister Sinister'.
But while Navarrette's casting has been celebrated by some, others are unhappy because they had become convinced that Cailee Spaeny would be Marvel's new 'Rogue'.
Navarrette, who recently broke out with Obsession, is taking on one of the most recognizable female characters in the X-Men universe. 'Rogue' is known for her ability to absorb another person's memories, abilities, and life force through physical contact. Her powers make ordinary human touch dangerous, creating one of the character's defining conflicts.
Over the years, 'Rogue' has developed into one of the X-Men's most popular characters, particularly because of her emotional journey from an isolated and troubled young mutant into a confident member of the team. Her relationship with 'Gambit' has also become one of Marvel's best-known mutant romances.
Navarrette had previously revealed that she met with Schreier about potential Marvel projects. Interestingly, she had expressed interest in playing 'Mystique', announcing that she would instead play 'Rogue', which has come as a surprise.
The biggest reason for the backlash is that Cailee Spaeny had been heavily linked to the role in recent weeks. Rumors surrounding Spaeny gained significant traction online, with many fans becoming convinced that the Alien: Romulus and Civil War star was headed for the MCU.

When Marvel officially announced Navarrette instead, the reaction was mixed. On Reddit, one fan admitted, “Damn I thought Cailee Spaeny would be Rogue,” while another wrote that they had been “really, really” hoping the Spaeny rumors were true.
Another fan said they loved both actresses but had preferred Spaeny, while others argued that Navarrette deserved the opportunity. So the response isn't universally negative. Some fans are thrilled with the decision and are excited to see how the Obsession star fits in the role. Others have pushed back against that argument, pointing out that Marvel has repeatedly reinvented comic characters for the screen.
