'Real Housewives of Orange County' alum, Meghan King, no longer has physical custody of her three children. They are living with her ex-husband, Jim Edmonds, following a CPS complaint.
Former Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan King has lost physical custody of her three children with her ex-husband Jim Edmonds in a new agreement following a Child Protection Services investigation. The couple, who split in 2021 and agreed on sharing joint custody of their kids, revised the settlement after a school employee allegedly complained about King’s parenting to the CPS. But what led to that child protection call?
Us Weekly was the first to report the custody change. The update follows weeks of reporting from multiple outlets that Meghan King had temporarily lost custody of her three children, including 9-year-old Aspen and 7-year-old twins Hart and Hayes. According to PEOPLE, discussions about a possible custody shift began earlier this year after multiple allegations against the RHOC alum’s questionable parenting.
Around October 2025, a school staff member contacted Child Protection Services after it was revealed that King allegedly gave one of her sons Ritalin, an ADHD medication, even though he did not have a prescription. When King allegedly asked the school nurse to administer the medication, it triggered the CPS investigation. Even more alarming is the fact that the child hasn’t been diagnosed with ADHD.
After the CPS call, a guardian ad litem (court-appointed advocate) reportedly requested a temporary restraining order for the kids’ safety, and all three were soon removed from the reality TV star’s care. They had been living with their father, Edmonds, and his second wife, Kortnie.
According to new reports by Us Weekly, the former Bravo star currently has permission to visit her children under supervision, while Edmons holds their sole physical custody. The outlet added that this is a temporary arrangement and will be reviewed at an upcoming hearing to decide whether it will be a permanent deal.
Jim Edmonds and his wife, Kortnie, flew from Tennessee to Missouri as soon as they learned of the CPS report. This was around Halloween in October, and all three children celebrated Thanksgiving with them. The couple even arranged a Taylor Swift-themed party for Aspen’s 9th birthday, showing how much they care for the children’s needs.
According to the new agreement, Aspen, Hart, and Hayes will continue to live in their father’s house in Tennessee with their stepmother, Kortnie. While the Bravo star is allowed extended parenting hours during summer breaks, she won’t be able be allowed regular parenting duties during the school year.
The custody battle comes just months after Meghan King had the cops called on her due to her questionable actions when she visited her ex, Jim, and Kortnie’s home. In May 2025, the RHOC star visited their residence to drop off a dress for her daughter, Aspen. According to the police report, Kortnie told officers that King stepped inside the house after repeatedly being told Aspen wasn’t there.
However, she wasn't arrested, and the prosecutor declined to pursue charges. The next day, Kortnie filed for a restraining order against Meghan, but withdrew it a month later after the two reached a mutual agreement to keep their distance.
The former RHOC alum married Jim Edmonds, a former MLB player, in October 2014 in St. Louis. Their marriage became the talk of the town after Meghan joined The Real Housewives of Orange County in 2015. After battling fertility challenges and opening up about their IVF journey, the couple was finally blessed with their first child, a daughter, Aspen, in 2016. They welcomed twin boys, Hart and Hayes, in 2018.
Much of King and Edmonds’ family life was documented on Bravo, and audiences loved seeing them grow into a beautiful family of five. However, five years into the marriage, things went awry when cheating allegations surfaced against Edmonds, which the latter acknowledged as a “lack of judgment”. The two separated in 2019 before finalising their divorce in 2021.
The Bravo star has since accused Edmonds of emotional abuse, a claim his representatives have repeatedly denied. Their co-parenting relationship has been tense since their 2019 split. And now, with the new agreement in place, Edmonds has full physical custody, and King’s time has been limited to a few weeks each summer until the court revisits the arrangement. Speaking about their co-parenting dynamics, Jim’s reps told Us Weekly earlier:
“Jim is an active and present father to all his children. The unfortunate part of all this is that it’s the kids who suffer the most. Jim has always been willing to coparent in a respectful and productive way; however, Meghan has yet to reciprocate.”
