Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan is going through one of the best phases of his life. According to reports, the 61-year-old actor is about to get married for the third time. Aamir is preparing to tie the knot with his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt, in an intimate ceremony within a few days. Now, as he prepares to undertake this new chapter in his life, his two previous marriages with Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao are once again in focus. Aamir Khan tied the knot with his first wife, Reena Dutta, back in 1986. This was reportedly before he became one of the most well-known faces in Bollywood. The duo remained married for 16 years, during which they welcomed two children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. However, Aamir and Reena decided to go their separate ways in 2002. It is worth noting that even after their marriage ended, neither Aamir nor Reena has revealed a specific reason for their divorce. Although some reports suggest their separation may have stemmed from temperamental differences and emotional distance, especially after Aamir began focusing more on his acting career.
Later, Aamir did open up about how his separation from Reena had affected him. He claimed that it was something traumatic for both of them and their families. In his words:
“Reena and I were married for 16 years. When we split up, it was traumatic for both of us and our families. We tried to deal with it as best as we could.”
However, Aamir made it very clear that their divorce was not due to a lack of respect for each other. He also clarified that he and Reena did not lose the love that they had for each other post their split. In another interview, Aamir confessed that after he separated from Reena, he went through a difficult phase and had even started relying on alcohol a bit too much. In 2005, nearly 2 years after his divorce from Reena, Aamir Khan married his second wife, Kiran Rao. According to reports, the pair had crossed paths for the first time during the making of Lagaan, where Kiran was working as an assistant director. In 2011, the former couple welcomed their son, Azad Rao, via surrogacy. While Aamir and Kiran were seen as one of the most creative couples in Bollywood, they announced their separation in 2021 after 15 years of marriage.
The announcement of their separation was made by both of them through a joint statement, unlike what we had seen with the actor's divorce. They claimed that they were beginning a new chapter, “no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.” Later, Kiran revealed that the reason they separated was that she needed her space and wanted to live independently. She also explained that there was no bitterness between the pair and that their bond remained as strong as ever, even after the divorce.
