The newlyweds reportedly began dating in 2022 and were introduced through a mutual friend who decided to be their matchmaker. A while back, the Guilty star shared some adorable pictures from her intimate wedding ceremony. Amid this, people have grown curious to know about Akansha’s husband, Sharan Sharma. Akansha Ranjan Kapoor's husband, Sharan Sharma, is a filmmaker. He is best known for his film, Gunjan Saxena and Mr. & Mrs. Mahi. He was a student at University of Southern California (USC), a private university in Los Angeles. During his time in LA, Sharan developed a deep love for films and storytelling. In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Sharan opened up about his passion for cinema. He said:
"During my years at USC, I developed a deep love for films, embracing every aspect, from storytelling to the business side of things. Interestingly, being at USC brought me even closer to Indian films. Hindi films became my connection to India while in LA. I distinctly remember one pivotal moment in my final year when I visited an Indian theatre in LA and watched Wake Up Sid. That film completely blew me away. For one of my film class assignments, we were tasked with doing a scene analysis. While my peers chose classic Hollywood films, I decided to analyse a scene from Wake Up Sid."
In the same interview, Sharan mentioned that to complete the film class assignment, they had to obtain a script and thus had to contact Ayan Mukerji. That contact changed his life. After graduating from USC, Sharan got a chance to work with Ayan in the classic film, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, and Aditya Roy Kapur. He said:
"The assignment required us to obtain the script of the film, which led me to track down the director, Ayan Mukerji’s email ID. I reached out to him, and that connection proved to be life-changing. A year after graduating, I got the opportunity to work as a director’s assistant on his next film, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Getting a foot in the door itself is a big challenge when starting in this industry. I was fortunate to connect with the director and have him trust me enough to let me be a part of his film."
During a 2025 conversation with The Male Feminist podcast, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor addressed her now-husband, Sharan Sharma, as the 'greenest flag'. The Guilty actress explained that she was not easy and she was a lot for men to handle as she had her own opinions on everything. Akansha mentioned that she also had boundaries around her. But after Sharan came into her life, everything changed beautifully. She was quoted as saying:
"The greenest flag is that everybody around him is like, 'You have met the best person in your life. You are the luckiest in the world.' So people loving him was the first thing. I am not easy. I am a lot for men to handle. Especially because I am opinionated, and not the quintessential 'ok whatever my husband says vibe', which a lot of men cannot take. I have always had boundaries. Like, my sister, my friends and then my family. I was like, 'No, no, men don’t deserve to be made all that.' But now those boundaries are broken. Not even broken, but melted beautifully."
In 2024, in an interview with TOI, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor said that she had been dating director, Sharan Sharma. She said, "Yes, I am in a relationship with Sharan. While I have not hidden the fact that I am dating him, I don't like to discuss my personal life too much." In a recent interview with Vogue, shared a rare glimpse into their low-key romance. She added that the Gunjan Saxena director pretended to be cool during their first meet. She said, "It's my absolute favourite story to tell! Besides, Sharan keeps trying to make himself sound cooler than he was."
