Virat Kohli Reveals His Nickname 'Cheeku' Has A Connection With Ears, Adds MS Dhoni Made It Popular

The popular cricketer is also immensely loved for his humble nature and friendly bond with his teammates and other acquaintances. Now, we stumbled upon a small clip from one of Virat Kohli's interviews, wherein he revealed certain unknown anecdotes about his nickname 'Cheeku', and it has a special connection with MS Dhoni.

Virat Kohli revealed who gave him the nickname 'Cheeku'

In an interview with Star Sports, Virat Kohli can be heard opening up about his nickname 'Cheeku'. He explained how his state coach gave him this name as his ears were big, similar to the famous comic, Champak's one of the characters named 'Cheeku'. Thus, since then, his state coach started calling him by this name. Virat shared:

"My nickname is 'Cheeku' because a state coach gave me that name because my ears are big and I had cut my hair very short one time. There was a comic named Champak in which there was a rabbit character named Cheeku, and he had big ears. So he started calling me 'Cheeku' from that day."

Virat also shared how MS Dhoni made his nickname known to the world

Further, in the same conversation, Virat explained how the story behind his nickname becoming extremely famous is connected to his close friend, MS Dhoni. Virat mentioned that MS used to call him by that name only and had started taking the name close to the stump microphone. For the unversed, it is a microphone embedded in a cricket stump, which helps the Decision Review System, to determine whether a batsman should be given out caught or not out leg before wicket. And it is known to all that Virat and Dhoni's teaming on the cricket pitch was one of the most hit pairs in the history of cricket. So, it is clear how Virat's nickname became known to the world. In Virat's words:

"It became famous because Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) started taking that name close to the stump mic."

When Virat Kohli revealed why MS Dhoni's daughter, Ziva scolded the former duo for one-long hour

Virat also shares a loving bond with MS Dhoni's daughter, Ziva, and proof of the same is often found. For the unversed, during Ziva's birth in 2015, Dhoni was preparing for the then-ICC World Cup. Thus, his wife, Sakshi had to call his teammates, including Suresh Raina and Virat, to inform MS Dhoni about the same. Later, in an interview with a leading media portal, Virat once recalled a hilarious yet cute incident when Ziva scolded him for one long hour. Recalling the same, Virat narrated how Ziva also scolded her father when he supported Virat in that incident and had said:

“Ziva is just like Dhoni Bhai, she speaks everything from the heart and once I took a bread slice from Ziva. She scolded me more than an hour for that. The funny part is even Mahi bhai got scolded when he supported me for that incident."

MS Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi Singh and Virat Kohli’s wife, Anushka Sharma were classmates in school

Not only Virat and Dhoni are more than just teammates, but their wives too, have a beautiful connection between them. We had stumbled upon several throwback photos of Anushka and Sakshi from their younger days. For instance, in a media interaction, Anushka spoke about her bond with Sakshi and praised Mahi for knowing how to treat his woman. Anushka was quoted as saying:

“I'm friends with Dhoni's wife Sakshi and I love the way he treats her and protects her. They look so cute together and I adore that MSD knows how to treat his woman. Sakshi and I lived together in a very small town in Assam. When she told me where she lived, I said wow, I have lived here too! She said I went to this school, I said I went to this school too. And then I found a picture in which Sakshi is dressed as a fairy and I'm dressed in a ghaghara like my favourite idol Madhuri. Sakshi is extremely funny.”
