Social media is abuzz with videos of Usha’s stumbling moment and how the brave woman protected her infant son as she risked her own personal injury. The incident happened on October 5, 2026, when Usha and her husband, Vice President JD Vance, got off at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Usha was getting off the helicopter with her newborn strapped to her chest. After taking two steps, she lost her balance, almost tripped, and stumbled forward. However, she quickly steadied herself and smiled as she calmed her baby. She was also carrying a large leather diaper bag. Despite losing her balance, Usha made sure to protect her baby.
Soon after, Vice President JD Vance came off the aircraft behind her, holding their 4-year-old daughter Mirabel. Despite the scary fall, Usha kept the moment light with her sense of humor as she was seen telling the nearby officers, “I nearly fell down the stairs. I'm okay, and he's fine... thank you.”
Usha and her husband, Vice President J.D. Vance, traveled on Marine 2 to Alaska on Monday as part of a sweeping nationwide tour aimed at drumming up Republican support ahead of the midterms. As soon as Usha’s stumbling video went viral, many social media users reacted, focusing on Usha and her baby's safety. One user wrote, “VP Vance should exit first, ahead of his wife, so he can protect her and the baby.”
Many users also pointed out the nearby officers who stood still when Usha stumbled and did nothing to protect her. One of the users penned, “I’m glad they’re both ok! Someone should have helped her with the diaper bag.” Another user praised Usha and wrote, “That was a really good save as only a mother can do.”
