Matt has been married to Luciana since December 2005. They tied the knot after two years of dating. While it was The Odyssey actor’s first marriage, Luciana walked down the aisle for the second time. In her previous marriage, Luciana welcomed a daughter named Alexia. After her marriage to Matt, the duo welcomed three daughters, Isabella, Gia and Stella. They completed 20 years of togetherness in December 2025, and in a recent interview with People, Matt shared the secret behind their long-lasting relationship. In his words:
"We have family dinner every night, and that’s non-negotiable, and it’s always been that way. One of my daughters said, 'Well, family dinner, last night we didn’t talk.' And we realized, 'Oh my gosh, you’re right.' We sat down for dinner, and you can get lost in that routine a little bit and not appreciate why you established the routine in the first place. That’s the kind of family mindfulness we’re all working on."
Matt crossed paths with Luciana in Miami in April 2003, while he was shooting his film, Stuck on You. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011, Matt shared that it was love at first sight for him. Recalling their first encounter, Matt shared in an interview with Metro that he felt an immediate spark. At the time, Luciana was a bartender. In his words, "I saw her across the room, and it was like there was a beam of light shining down on her — she was radiating joy. I was like, I have to talk to this person."
Later in an interview with Vogue Australia, Luciana shared her side of the story. She admitted that they could connect right away and felt very comfortable. She added that one of the traits that The Odyssey star loved about her was that when they first met, she was a mom to a daughter. In her words:
"We definitely had a connection right away; it was so easy to talk to each other, we were very comfortable with each other, and by the end of the night, he invited me to go out with his friends. But I was like, 'I can't, I have a four-year-old daughter, I'm not going anywhere', and that was one of the things he loved, that I had a daughter. He said, 'I love that you're a mum and that's your priority.' Some guys might have been different; they might think it's complicated, but for him it wasn't."
In a 2023 interview, Matt Damon recalled a difficult phase of his life when he slipped into depression. Recalling the phase, Matt shared that a film hadn't worked well according to his expectations at the time. This made him sad and depressed. However, it was Luciana who didn’t give up and was hopeful. She became his pillar of strength and helped Matt fight depression. In his words:
"Sometimes you find yourself in a movie that you know, perhaps, might not be what you had hoped it would be, and you're still making it. I remember my wife pulling me up because I fell into a depression. Luciana just said, 'We're here now.' And what being a professional actor means is you go, and you do the 15-hour day and give it absolutely everything, even in what you know is going to be a losing effort. If you can do that with the best possible attitude, then you're a pro. And she really helped me with that."
