Susie Wiles is the first woman to hold the position of White House Chief of Staff. She is known as a fearsome leader, but her name always remained outside the spotlight. However, after Susie Wiles' Vanity Fair interview turned explosive, everyone has been talking about her. She is known for being the daughter of the NFL star, Pat Summerall. Here's everything to know about her lesser-known ex-husband, Lanny Wiles.
Born as Susie 'Susan' Summerall, she was married to Republican consultant, Lanny Wiles for more than three decades. The former couple had tied the knot in 1984. However, these many years of marriage were scathed by financial troubles. Susie and Lanny also had an age gap of fourteen years, reported the Daily Mail. However, that was not the issue. The former couple was buried in financial trouble up to their necks. In 1991, they even filed for bankruptcy with liabilities of USD 3 million.
Susie shared with the portal that it was Lanny's money issues that had ended their marriage. She said that her then-husband had taken wrong financial decisions that had cost them a lot of money. Somehow, she was also pulled into the mess. Despite the issues, they managed to make the marriage work for 26 years. However, in 2017, Susie and Lanny Wiles divorced. The White House Chief of Staff shared:
"I was drawn into it. My former husband, sadly, made a series of poor business decisions nearly 35 years ago ... This was an unfortunate time in our lives and ultimately these issues led to a divorce some years later."
As per the the Daily Mail, Lanny was neck deep in huge debts. Especially, in his home state of North Carolina, he owed many businessmen huge sums of money. Unfortunately, Susie was also tagged as a 'joint debtor' in the bankruptcy filing. After selling their property, the court ordered them to split the proceeds to address their financial issues. Following her divorce from Lanny, Susie appears to be focusing all her efforts on politics.
Lanny and Susie have two daughters, Katie and Caroline. A day after her mother became the White House Chief of Staff, Katie was also promoted as the director of lobbying and consulting offices of the Continental Strategy in Washington, D.C. The President of the department stated about Katie:
“We know she will shine in this new role and will provide new avenues for growth as we continue to build from the momentum of a landslide victory for President Donald Trump on Election Day."
Meanwhile, Susie and Lanny's youngest daughter, Caroline, had to resign as White House staffer. As per reports, she failed the Federal Bureau of Investigation's background check. She had served Donald Trump during his first term as his deputy assistant. However, the FBI's background check, which delved into her history, ultimately cost Caroline and six other aides their jobs.
