Despite facing an oblique injury earlier in the week, Darnold told reporters on January 23, 2026, "I feel really good… the process is going right along where it should be," confirming his presence to lead Seattle's Super Bowl push. Although he is currently focused solely on football, fans are also curious about why he has not yet married his fiancée, Katie Hoofnagle.
There is just one simple answer as to why Sam Darnold has not tied the knot with Katie Hoofnagle: timing. The couple only got engaged in July 2025, just weeks before the start of the 2025-26 NFL season. According to reports, Sam planned the proposal on a beach in Dana Point, California, surrounded by white flowers, followed by a small dinner with close friends and family. Katie later shared pictures from one of the most special days of her life and penned:

Since the 2025-26 NFL season began, their wedding planning has understandably taken a back seat. Multiple reports, including one from Heavy.com, suggested that Sam and Katie do not intend to schedule a wedding during the NFL season. The quarterback's move to Seattle, a demanding training schedule, and now a playoff run have kept his calendar packed. Meanwhile, neither Sam nor Katie has shared an official wedding date. However, those close to the couple and fans following their journey expect them to tie the knot once the season concludes. But irrespective of their wedding date, the couple is enjoying their engagement period now.
Sam Darnold and Katie Hoofnagle made their relationship Instagram-official in June 2023 when she posted a heartfelt birthday tribute to him. Among the other photos, one shows the duo solving puzzles over FaceTime and attending an event for The Jessie Rees Foundation, a pediatric cancer charity supported by Sam. Since then, Katie has frequently been seen on the sidelines supporting Sam through his stints with the Panthers, Vikings, and now the Seahawks. She often wears his number, "14," on jewelry and clothing and admires him through her social media posts.
Katie Hoofnagle graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2020 with a degree in marketing and a minor in nutrition. She has also been an active soccer playing during her college time. After college, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, for personal growth when Sam was playing with the Carolina Panthers. Professionally, she changed her career path from working at a loan management firm to a healthcare technology role.
According to her LinkedIn, since October 2024, she has been working remotely as an account manager for Renvio, a company specializing in dialysis software for kidney patients. Apart from work, she enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and yoga, often sharing glimpses of her outdoor adventures on Instagram.
