While people have grown curious to know the history behind the mission, chatter has also been brewing about what the actors charged to work in the OTT special.
The much-talked-about web series Operation Safed Sagar has been making headlines for its unfiltered dive into the 1999 mission during the Kargil War. The film brings back the story of the bravehearted soldiers who laid their lives for the country and protected the nation in one of the toughest battles free India had faced.
However, along with the impeccable story, the film also featured a marvelous cast that includes Siddharth as 'Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja', Jimmy Shergill as 'Tony', and Abhay Verma as 'Wing Commander R.S. Dhaliwal', alongside Dia Mirza and Adil Hussain. While the viewers enjoy the film, a question has now popped up in everyone's mind: How much did the cast charge for their roles?
While the exact numbers for the web series are not known, it is alleged that the cast was well paid for their roles. Made with a budget of Rs. 215 crore, the web series is Netflix India's most expensive and ambitious local production. The series took around 115 days to shoot and spent around Rs. 49 crore on VFX and creative tech budget alone. So, how much did the cast really take home?
According to reports, while the exact remuneration is not known, Siddharth charges between Rs. 4 crore and Rs. 10 crore for a project, depending on the role and scale. Whereas Jimmy Shergill, who is often considered an underpaid actor despite his skills, is said to charge anywhere between Rs. 1.5 crore to Rs. 3 crore for a project. The final lead in Operation Safed Sagar, Abhay Verma, is also allegedly said to charge around Rs. 50 lakh for his role, after he gained fame following the success of Munjya.
However, these figures remain unconfirmed. Dia Mirza, on the other hand, allegedly charges around Rs. 1 crore for an OTT project. Since the makers have not confirmed the remunerations, these remain only speculations about Operation Safed Sagar's cast's alleged fees. Nonetheless, with their stellar performances, it won't be a surprise if they're paid far more for their work.
Operation Safed Sagar was the Indian Air Force's codename for its air operations during the Kargil War, running from May to July 1999 alongside the Army's Operation Vijay. It was launched after Indian patrols detected intrusions by Pakistani Army personnel and militants across the Line of Control in the Kargil, Drass, and Batalik sectors.
The intruders had occupied high-altitude posts overlooking the Srinagar-Leh highway, India's key supply route to Ladakh. To evict them, the IAF had to operate in extreme terrain above 16,000 to 18,000 feet, making it one of the highest-altitude air campaigns ever attempted.
Operations began on May 26, 1999, and faced challenges because conventional bombing was ineffective at such a high altitude. The IAF flew over 5,000 sorties in about two months. Operation Safed Sagar ended in July 1999 after the withdrawal of intruding forces.
