For the unversed, Mikayla Matthews has never revealed the identities of her parents on any platform. However, she grew up in Granada Hills, California, and her family members included six more siblings. Mikayla was the second youngest child. Notably, Matthews did not have a very normal childhood, and she addressed the same during an interview on The Squeeze Podcast in May 2025. Mikayla said in the conversation:
“I actually blocked out a lot of my childhood. I remember a lot of the trauma from growing up and like a lot of the bad things that I took from it. But I don’t remember a lot of like happy memories. I remember just, like, a lot of yelling.”
Mikayla Matthews was a fourth-grade student when her parents separated. Mikayla recalled in The Squeeze Podcast that her parents used to fight a lot, and following their divorce, Matthews and her siblings moved to Utah, where her mother’s parents used to live. On the other hand, Mikayla’s father continued staying in California over the years, and her mother started seeing someone after moving to Utah.
Mikayla even claimed on the podcast that she and her siblings were growing up on their own without their mother’s help. Mikayla’s father has also battled with certain health issues, including Parkinson’s and arthritis. However, Matthews was reportedly abused by her mother’s second husband and a few more times when she was between the ages of 6 and 15. Mikayla alleged in the podcast that the abuse incident involving her mother’s second husband happened in 2015. Matthews recalled the time when she opened up about it to one of her sisters and said:
“Something happened on Halloween of 2015, and that was like my final straw where I was like, ‘I’m going to tell someone about this and what happened. I honestly can’t remember how [my mom] reacted [when I told her], but she was basically like, ‘You’re lying. That’s not true. That didn’t happen.’”
Mikayla Matthews said on The Squeeze Podcast that her mother used to remain angry, and her reactions were very emotional. Mikayla claimed that there were situations where her mother used to yell at her father and call them with names. Matthews said that her mother possibly did not learn how to control certain emotions, adding that she develops more empathy for her mother instead of anger while remembering those moments.
While speaking to PEOPLE in May 2025, Mikayla Matthews said that she has seen her mother in various places over all these years. Matthews mentioned that despite going through a lot of issues during her childhood, she does not want to end the relationship forever. During her interview on The Squeeze Podcast, Mikayla stated that the abuse incident was never discussed with her mother, as she said:
“That’s not a conversation we’ve ever had. I don’t think I’m ever going to have that conversation, and I’m okay with that now. If I were to bring it up, I think it would be met with the same deflection that I saw my whole life.”
