Young Lyric and Shakur Stevenson sparked romance rumours after eagle-eyed fans noticed their social media exchanges despite them trying to keep things low-key and not revealing much about their relationship. After keeping fans speculating, Young Lyric and Shakur Stevenson finally confirmed they were in a relationship by going Instagram official on December 17, 2020, sharing pictures of one another. Not many in the boxing community were aware of how the couple met and fell in love. Well, in one of her interviews, Lyrics recounted that her first meeting with her fiancé was during a musical project with Rap-A-Lot. She stated:
“So he’s with Rap-A-Lot, he works with James Prince. Oh, okay. I was also working with him at the time. I was working with Baby Jay, that’s James Prince’s thing. And we were working together musically or whatever. So I was around, and he was around. So, you know, he just told Baby Jay, like, oh, like, what’s up with that?”
Young Lyric and Shakur Stevenson's relationship garnered the most attention in 2022 when the boxer proposed to her. This is because he got down on one knee after his victory against Oscar Valdez in a unanimous decision right on the boxing ring. And, as you might already have guessed, she said yes. Following the surprise proposal, Lyric took to her Instagram Stories to write, “Thank you so much everybody! I can't believe my baby shared this special moment with me. According to reports, Young Lyric first announced her pregnancy to the world back on October 18, 2021, by posting a series of pictures from a photoshoot on her social media. Additionally, two days later, on October 20, 2021, she posted a video on her YouTube channel titled Young Lyric Pregnancy Announced.
In the same year, Shakur Stevenson and Young Lyric welcomed their first child, a daughter they lovingly named Leilani Asha Stevenson. However, after becoming a mother and getting engaged to Shakur Stevenson, Young Lyric took a hiatus from music. Explaining the reason for her inactivity in an interview at the time, Young Lyric said:
“Yes, I did when I had a baby because it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. Having a baby and stuff, and trying to do music and all of that. So it was like, yeah, I did take a little break, and I’m still like just eating back into it right now.”
