Over the years, he received numerous accolades, including 11 Grammy Awards, 11 Academy of Country Music Awards and 15 Country Music Association Awards. Currently, the country music legend is hogging the limelight for his upcoming tour, which is part of his famous All-American Road Show.
Coming to his personal life, Chris Stapleton has been happily married to Morgane Stapleton for 18 years. While the world might know Morgane as Chris’s wife, she has her own world. Morgane Stapleton was born as Morgane Hayes on January 25, 1983, to Darell and Suzanne Hayes. She was raised alongside her sister, Melissa Hayes. She was already a singer and was signed to Arista Nashville before she met her future husband. Although she recorded three albums, she didn’t release them. In a 2017 interview with The New York Times, Morgane shared that she doesn’t want to be in the spotlight.
While Morgane never craved the limelight, she continued to work as a songwriter and also collaborated with artists like Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, John Prine, and Reba McEntire. She has also worked as a background session vocalist on the tracks made by Carrie, Kellie Pickler, Joe Nichols, and Lee Ann Womack.
In 2003, Morgane met her future husband, Chris Stapleton, when they were both working as songwriters in Nashville. The duo’s first date was quite personal and special. Sharing a rare glimpse of their initial days when they were seeing each other, in August 2015, Morgane told The Washington Post that she used to wait for Chris and sit in her friend’s office at Sea Gayle Music. Recalling the days, Morgane said:
"We’d hear the jingle of his keys as he walked down the hall, and we knew he was coming to play us whatever new song he had written."
Morgane is part of her husband’s band and performs background, harmony and duet vocals. As a pair, they have sung many times, including a live show on Today in September 2024. When the duo was dating, Morgane liked the demo version of Fire Away, a song by Chris. Later, Morgane convinced her husband to include the song in his 2015 debut album, Traveller. Talking about the song, Morgane once told The Washington Post, "It’s a very honest song, and that’s what I love about it. It says what I feel like when I want to fight: Let’s just have at it and be real."
In the same interview, the country music legend added that he was initially reluctant to include the song, Fire Away in his debut album, but later it became his favourite. Morgane had a huge influence on the sound of Chris Stapleton. Speaking of the same, Dave Cobb, Chris’s producer, told Morgane has been a "great litmus" and held a "huge input on what becomes the sound of the record" of Chris.
Morgane and Chris have been married for over a decade now. According to a report by People, the couple tied the knot on October 27, 2007. In a past interview with Rolling Stone, the country music legend revealed that his beloved wife engraved the words, "You Are My Sunshine" inside his wedding ring, and this made him quite special. The couple often celebrate their marriage anniversary on social media. On their 18th wedding anniversary, Chris shared a snap of himself with his wife, Morgane and wrote, "The best 18 years of my life."
Morgane and Chris are parents to five children, four sons and a daughter. They welcomed their first child, a son named Waylon, in 2009 and welcomed their daughter in 2010. After eight years in 2018, the couple was blessed with twin sons named Macon and Samuel and in 2019, the couple welcomed their fourth son. When Chris won three awards at the 2015 Country Music Association Awards, it was Morgane who was cheering louder for him. In April 2021, when Chris won Album of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards, he credited his wife and said, "We worked really hard to make music. And we think a lot about it. It means a lot. It really does." He also thanked his wife, Morgane, after his second Country Music Awards and said:
"I really am taken aback. Thank you so much for this. I owe my wife an apology. That last award also belonged to her ... I really owe a lot to her, so I thank her for her support."
