Rani Mukerji is one of the most loved actresses of Bollywood, who is best known for her strong and powerful screen presence. She is currently hogging the limelight not just for completing 30 years in Bollywood but also for her upcoming film, Mardaani 3. Rani is all set to reprise her role of the fearless cop, 'Shivani Shivaji Roy'. As the film is set to release on January 30, 2026, read on to know its runtime and the changes given by CBFC.
Mardaani 3, starring Rani Mukerji is all set to hit the silver screen on January 30, 2026; however the Central Board of Film Certification suggested a few changes. If reports are to be believed, CBFC suggested multiple cuts. Later, the production house, Yash Raj Films suggested 14 cuts, which were eventually approved by the CBFC. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, one of the major changes made by the CBFC was that they asked the makers to add dr*g-related disclaimers.
The CBFC also ordered the filmmakers to change the word, 'bachi' to 'ladki' in se**ul violence scenes. Further, the makers had to provide the age certificate of the female actors in the film, to make sure there were no minors. Reportedly, scenes of girls being slapped were altered and derogatory terms were muted or replaced with suitable words. Overall, the film was granted a U/A 16+ certificate. It is worth mentioning that the runtime of Mardaani 3 after all the changes is 2 hours and 10 minutes.
For those who do not know, the Mardaani series began in 2014, which introduced Rani Mukerji as the fearless and unapologetic cop, 'Shivani Shivaji Roy'. The movie was highly appreciated for its powerful narrative and Rani's screen presence. In 2019, the franchise continued with Mardaani 2, which featured Rani Mukerji against a serial ra***t. It is worth mentioning that the USP of the franchise is the Rani Mukerji and its through-provoking plot.
The upcoming film, Mardaani 3, features Rani Mukerji as the fearless cop and Mallika Prasad as 'Amma', the main antagonist of the movie. Reportedly, the film will also star Janki Bodiwala, Jisshu Sengupta, Mikhail Yawalkar and more. While details about the plot of Mardaani 3 have been kept under wraps, the trailer suggests that the film will explore a spine-chilling case of missing girls. It is most likely to hint at human tra*****ing.
A few days ago, Rani Mukerji had a candid conversation with Mid-Day, during which she opened up about the film, Mardaani 3 and her brave character of 'Shivani'. She shared that whenever she does a film like Mardaani, her goal is to make the audience realise the issues that happen in the country. She also described her experience as challenging. Rani Mukerji was quoted as saying:
"Emotionally, the trauma that the girls suffer in the film is also what we suffer indirectly, as we know that they are inspired by true events. To think of the missing girls and what their families go through is traumatising. When I pick up subjects like Mardaani, I’m trying to shake people up and tell them, Look, this is happening around us."
