Manoj Bajpayee Reveals His First Film, 'Bandit Queen's Salary And How He Tripled It In Six Years

Manoj Bajpayee spilled beans on the amount he received for his first film and how he tripled it in just six years.

Manoj Bajpayee is one of the finest actors in Bollywood, and he has impressed everyone with his stellar acting prowess in a wide variety of films and web series. He debuted in the industry back in the 90s and gradually established himself as the most bankable actor of his generation. The actor is currently promoting his film, Bhaiyya Ji, which just got released in the theatres, and in one such candid conversation session, Manoj revealed his first paycheck amount and how he tripled it in just a few years.

Manoj Bajpayee disclosed his first film's salary

In an interview with Mashable Middle East, Manoj Bajpayee was cooking aloo bhujiya with chef, Ranveer Brar in his restaurant kitchen. He revealed that for his first film, Bandit Queen, he received a salary of Rs. 50,000. It was a 1994 film based on the life of gangster, Phoolan Devi.

In the same conversation, Manoj added that six years later, she signed another film for which he got triple the remuneration compared to his first film. He divulged that he got Rs. 1, 50,000 for the film. However, he did not reveal the name of the film. In Manoj's words:

"It was Rs 50,000 for Bandit Queen. After six years, I did a film, I am not going to name it, but I got Rs 1,50,000."

Manoj Bajpayee is undoubtedly a reservoir of talent who effortlessly immerses himself in every character he plays. However, Manoj is very choosy when it comes to the roles he takes up. The Satya actor was initially offered the role of 'Chunnilal' in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles.

At the time, Manoj Bajpayee was primarily focused on the lead roles, which influenced his decision to decline the role of 'Chunnilal'. He believed that taking on a supporting character might affect his marketability. The role was eventually played by Jackie Shroff. In an interview with ETimes, Manoj expressed his desire to play the role of 'Devdas', a character he felt a strong connection with.

"I've always wanted to play Devdas. There have been a few adaptations, but no one thought of casting me. I would love to play that character."
