Mackenzie Shirilla’s parents have previously reacted to their daughter’s sentencing

Although Mackenzie Shirilla was sentenced in 2023, Natalie and Steve appeared for their first interview in May 2025. While speaking to 3News Investigates, Steve addressed the fact that he and Natalie can never be happy about the fact that two people died in the crash, and their daughter was safe. Steve continued by saying:

“Show me one piece of evidence - one - that says she did this on purpose. Show it to me. Then she’s right where she belongs and she’s guilty of it. But there isn’t any. There’s no evidence (of) what was going on in that car other than information they gleamed from the black box information.”

Natalie said that evidence related to Mackenzie’s innocence was originally given to the defense attorney. The evidence included medical records revealing that Mackenzie had Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. The prosecutors objected when a new motion was filed in April 2025 related to the evidence of the medical condition.
