The Grammy-winning rapper broke down in tears as the verdict was read Friday, September 11, 2026, while his wife, India Royale, was seen comforting his mother from the courtroom gallery.
A Los Angeles jury found Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, not guilty of conspiracy, stalking resulting in death, and murder-for-hire charges related to a 2022 shooting incident. Prosecutors alleged that Durk orchestrated the shooting that targeted rapper Quando Rondo as retaliation for the 2020 killing of Durk's friend and collaborator King Von. While Quando survived the shooting, his cousin, Saviay’a "Lul Pab" Robinson, was killed.
Durk's defense team maintained that the prosecutors' case relied heavily on cooperating witnesses who had incentives to testify against the rapper and had also pled guilty.
India was one of the most recognizable faces in the court during the rapper’s high-profile murder trial. Family members and friends were in the courtroom throughout the proceedings, and her emotional response to Friday's verdict underscored what was at stake for the entire family.
India, whose real name is India Cox, is a beauty personality based in Chicago. She is best known for her online persona and entrepreneurial endeavors. The 31-year-old influencer built a large social media following with beauty, hair, and lifestyle content before branching out into her own business, India Royale Beauty.
India has been linked with the rapper for several years, and they have built a blended family with India's older daughter, Skylar, and Willow, their first child together. Even though Skylar is not Durk's biological daughter, he claims her as his own.
The pair's relationship unfolded before the public for years, and Durk finally proposed to India onstage at Lollapalooza in 2021. The couple eventually tied the knot in 2024, shortly before his arrest on murder for hire charges tied to the 2022 shooting. Their relationship has also inspired some of Durk's music, including songs named after Royale.
It is reported that Durk has seven biological children, and his fatherhood journey began when he was a teenager. Publicly available information indicates the rapper has seven children: Angelo, Bella, Zayden, Romeo, Du’mier, Skylar, and Willow. He had these children with multiple women. The rapper had his oldest children, Angelo and Bella, with his ex-partner, Nicole Covone. His youngest, Willow, is Durk's daughter with India Royale.
The Grammy winner has often spoken publicly about his blended family dynamics. He considers Royale's older daughter, whom he has helped raise, part of his own family. He has also been actively involved in the lives of his late brother Dontay "DThang" Banks Jr.'s children.
Durk has spoken about how important fatherhood is to him in the past, and family members have remained a big part of his life through his career and legal troubles. Since Durk’s arrest in October 2024, his son Zayden Banks has been very vocal about his support for his dad, citing Durk’s charitable works and his role as a loving father. The then-10-year-old said in an emotional statement posted on Instagram:
"Before I start, I want to defend my dad, Durk Banks. He has always dedicated his life to uplifting others and giving back to our community through his nonprofit organization, Neighborhood Heroes. Beyond that, he is a great father who has always supported and loved our family unconditionally."
The teen continued to affirm that his father "has not been convicted of any charges and remains innocent until proven otherwise." He pled with fans to keep supporting the rapper for "all the good he continues to do."
Now, following Durk's not-guilty verdict, his father, Dontay Banks Sr., praised the jury outside the courthouse, saying he was grateful that the truth had come out. However, he is not going home yet. Durk is facing a separate racketeering charge, for which he will remain in custody until the case moves forward.
But through it all, India Royale has become Lil Durk's biggest source of support, not only for him, but also for his parents and the rest of the family.
