Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleMultiple Daytime Emmy Award winner Kelly Ripa has been recovering after a painful dental procedure. Recently, during an episode that featured Nick Jonas, Kelly Ripa's husband, Mark Consuelos, revealed that Kelly Ripa has had gum graft surgery.
The surgery left her with so much pain that she was even unable to speak. During the Monday episode of Live With Kelly And Mark, Kelly Ripa's husband mentioned that she was recommended the surgery five years back by one of her dentists, and she has finally done it, and this one just 'hurts'. Amid Mark's revelation, let's know what gum graft surgery really is, which brought Kelly a strong instruction to remain silent until her gums heal.
For those wondering if gum graft is a major procedure, the answer is no. It's a minor surgery that takes 30-45 minutes to be completed. According to multiple public sources, the gum graft surgery, a dental procedure, treats thinning of the gum or gum recession. Gum recession is when the margin of the gum line pulls away, leading to more exposure of the tooth or its root.
When the gum recedes, the gaps between the teeth or the gum line cause bacterial buildup, leading to several other diseases. To treat this issue, gum grafting is an option, which covers the exposed teeth and volumises the gum line, thus reducing the risk of gum disease and improving overall oral health. In some cases, it takes 1-2 weeks to fully recover, while in other cases it might take a longer time to heal.
During the episode that aired on Monday, Mark revealed that when five years back her dentist recommended the surgery to her, she joked that she didn't think that she would be on air after five years. However, she had undergone the surgery recently. One of the main recovery processes of the gum graft is not to speak for a while, and given that Kelly is a 'conversationalist', it's hard for her. Her husband revealed that he has been trying to keep her from breaking the rules that she was asked to follow.
During the same interview, Kelly Ripa's husband shared that she has constantly been checking the progress, and he had to ask her to stop doing the same and let the procedure do its work. According to Mark, Kelly asked him to check the progress by pulling her lips down, and when he denied it, she pulled her lips down herself so he could check and tell her if it was healing. According to him, Kelly is someone who doesn't generally complain about pain, but he knows that this is just bad and it hurts. According to Mark:
"But she famously doesn't feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn’t use the novocaine. But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad."
For those who don't know, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos met on the set of All My Children, and following the same, the duo fell in love with each other. Kelly and Mark were 25 years old when they decided to elope in Las Vegas and get married. The couple has been married for 30 years now, and they are parents to three kids, Michael, Lola and Joaquin.
