Mark stated that Kelly has been recovering from the dental procedure, and doctors told her not to speak as she is in a healing process.
Kelly Ripa's fans were worried when she was not seen on Live With Kelly. Kelly has been at home and is on a path to recovery, as revealed by her husband, Mark Consuelos. He shared that his wife has sent her love, and for the time being, Kevin Jonas came as a co-host. Kelly has been unwell after the gum graft surgery.
For the unversed, a gum graft is a periodontal procedure that is done to treat receding, thinning gums. Healthy gum tissues are transferred to cover the tooth roots that are exposed. A user revealed that the dental procedure takes time to heal and wrote, "Gum graft surgery takes up to six weeks to heal. They take a graft from the roof of your mouth, place the graft on the gum line where it is receded. It is not pleasant at all."
Another user wrote, "Gum graft surgery is a piece of cake these days. Many oral surgeons use animal bone for the graft, and the surgery is often needed before dental implants are inserted." The surgery can reduce tooth sensitivity and also protect against further gum recession which impacts oral health.
The gum graft surgery is very painful, and the recovery is a slow process. Kelly's fan had written, "Everyone responds to any surgery differently, when it comes to pain and the recovery. The gum grafting procedure is very painful. For those saying they had no issues with the surgery, congratulations."
Kelly's dentist had told her five years ago that she would undergo the surgery, and Kelly had joked, saying that she does not think she would be on air in the next five years. Consuelos had stated that Kelly was doing well and great. He stated that she is not allowed to talk and told Kevin Jonas:
"She’s following a lengthy list of recovery instructions. The biggest item is going to keep her away from Live for a bit: she’s not allowed to talk."
Kevin Jonas had joked that for Kelly, the hardest thing to do was not to talk. Mark had agreed that his wife is a great conversationalist. He also revealed that his wife is trying to make sure that she listens to her dentist. She has been told to eat only soft foods, has to avoid a straw and is resisting the urge to talk. She is expected to come live in the upcoming week.
Kelly Ripa's husband had also revealed that she wants to recover fast. She could not resist asking him to check her gums and Mark said, "Last night she was like, ‘Can you look?’ I’m like, ‘I’m not pulling your lip down." Kelly then had tilted her head towards the floor so that he could see the area of her gums without she having to tug her lips. He told Kevin that her recovery is painful and shared:
"So I’m down there like, ‘It looks great!’ Yeah, it’s painful,” he said. “But she famously doesn’t feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn’t use the novocaine. But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad.”
