Vice President, JD Vance recently became a subject of criticism after he shared a special post on his 12th anniversary.
After being vocal about his desire to have a 4th child, JD Vance has come into the spotlight for his heartfelt Anniversary message to his wife, Usha. Incidentally, the past comes a couple of days after the couple opened up about the influence behind their decision to welcome a fourth child. For those unaware, the duo is set to welcome their fourth child, a baby boy, in July 2026
JD Vance took to his Instagram handle on June 14, 2026, to mark his 12th wedding anniversary with his wife, Usha. For the occasion, he shared a throwback picture from their wedding day. Along with the image, he wrote, "Happy Anniversary to our lovely Second Lady. 13 years and almost 4 kids later, and we're still going strong." The message was supposed to be a love-filled tribute for his wife. But the phrase "almost 4 kids" quickly became a subject of discussion for critics. Since Usha is pregnant with their fourth child, several internet users argued that the wording did not align with JD Vance's pro-life views.
Some social media users immediately questioned why he addressed the unborn baby as "almost" a fourth child. In fact, others felt that the comment contrasted with his public opinion that life begins before a child is born. The discussion immediately went viral on social media, where supporters and fans began to draw different meanings from his words. One user penned, "So at what point does that fetus qualify as kid number 4, JD?" Another user wrote, 'Almost 4 that is harsh on the 4th one, that you don't consider him/her as a full human.'
The backlash comes at a time when JD Vance continues to be one of the most local voices about abortion policy. He has often expressed his personal opposition to abortion. But his recent comment has been interpreted differently by internet users.
Before the criticism, Usha Vance sat down for an interview with JD Vance and shared the personal influence behind their decision to expand their family. She revealed that Political commentator, Charlie Kirk's window, Erika's Kirk's regret of not having more kids before his death impacted the couple. According to Usha, the couple was already considering having a fourth child. But Erika's regret after Charlie's death helped reinforce JD's belief that having another child would prevent any future regrets. Sharing how Errika's words were powerful and moving, she said:
"It really did crystallise for you (JD) that sense that if you could have that other child, then you would have nothing to regret. And if we couldn't have that other child, then we were very happy with the children that we had. It was very powerful, what (Erika) said about her own family, and certainly very moving to both of us."
Earlier, JD Vance also addressed the subject in an excerpt from his upcoming book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. In his book, he mentioned that shortly after Charlie's death in September 2025, Erika spoke with Usha about her regret of not having more kids. In turn, the conversation shifted something emotionally for his wife, who had long felt that their family was complete. The Vice President mentioned that he had long hoped to have another kid, but Usha had always been content with their three kids. Still, the phase after Charlie's death made them reconsider parenthood and their future.
JD and Usha Vance first met while attending Yale Law School. They came from different backgrounds,: Usha grew up in a well-educated, middle-class, immigrant family,, and JD came from a more humble Christian background. But they still quickly developed a strong connection. Over time, they supported each other,, and JD often praises his wife for bringing him closer to his faith during a difficult time in his life. Eventually, they got married in an interfaith ceremony in 2014 with both Christian and Hindu rituals. Since then, they have welcomed four kids and support each other in political and administrative work.
