For the unversed, multiple fire tenders were rushed to the location, and it took nearly two hours to stop the fire. The nightclub has been sealed for now, and management and owners are being questioned about the same. It is also reported that the club failed to comply with fire safety norms, which led to the devastating fire.
As per the eyewitnesses, the first was started on the club's first floor, where tourists were dancing. A tourist from Hyderabad told PTI that as the flames started erupting, they rushed out of the club. Within seconds, the entire structure was up in flames. The tourist further revealed that there was a temporary construction made up of palm leaves, which easily caught fire, and many tourists and staff got trapped there with no chance to escape.
Birch by Romeo Lane is situated in the backwaters of the Arpora River. It is a quite big and popular nightclub in Goa. However, it has a narrow entry and exit. It is also reproted that when the fire erupted, firefighters faced a lot of difficulty due to the narrow lanes and the tankers had to be parked about 400 meters away from the spot.
