Following the latest verdict in the case, G Herbo started trending as his reaction to the court’s decision grabbed a lot of attention.
As mentioned, Lil Durk has been acquitted of the murder-for-hire charges linked to an incident that happened in 2022. While the news started trending, G Herbo reacted to the news with a video that he shared through his Instagram Story on September 12, 2026. Notably, Herbo was heard saying:
“That’s hard. That’s hard, boy….”
Lil Durk and G Herbo's bond goes back to the early Chicago drill explosion in 2012 and 2013. They did not come up as label mates, but as teenagers surviving the same South Side war zone. They grew up just blocks apart and knew each other long before they got famous, sharing stages, studios, and losses long before major deals.
Durk and Herbo’s first real link was musical. They started working together around the time of Durk's first big mixtape, Signed To The Streets, in 2013. Later, Durk appeared on Herbo's 2015 song Ain't Right. Both have described that period as brotherhood, not just industry.
Through the years, they stayed publicly loyal while Chicago politics split many others. During the Instagram Live battles in 2020, they refused to compete against each other and instead played each other's favorites. They collaborated again on Real One from Herbo's PTSD Deluxe and on Party in Heaven.
When Lil Durk was arrested in 2024 in the federal murder-for-hire case tied to Quando Rondo's cousin, G Herbo was one of the few to speak openly. In an interview on It's Up There Podcast in 2025, Herbo said that internet narratives try to pit Chicago rappers against each other and called Durk's case heavy, noting the pressure to crash out that the streets put on artists. Their relationship lasted because it is rooted in survival, not just rap.
G Herbo, born Herbert Randall Wright III, gained recognition for helping shape the early drill sound. Raised in the East Side neighborhood known as Terror Town, he started rapping at 16 with childhood friend Lil Bibby. Their 2012 track Kill Shit went viral after Drake called them the future.
G Herbo became a popular face after the release of his debut mixtape Welcome to Fazoland in 2014. This was followed by Pistol P Project, Ballin Like I'm Kobe, and Strictly 4 My Fans. He was named to the 2016 XXL Freshman Class. His debut studio album Humble Beast arrived in 2017 to critical praise. He then signed a joint deal with Epic and released Swervo with producer Southside in 2018, and Still Swervin in 2019.
Another one of his projects, PTSD, debuted in the Billboard 200 top ten. Notably, the project addressed trauma, therapy, and survivor's guilt, featuring Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi Vert, and Lil Durk. Herbo continued bringing out more albums, like 25, Survivor's Remorse, and Big Swerv, which also contributed to his growth. Beyond music, Herbo is known for his advocacy around mental health in the inner city and his work with youth programs in Chicago.
