Sarah J. Maas officially confirms two new ACOTAR books

Sarah J. Maas recently sat with host Alexandra Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, addressing popular questions and queries from her readers. While it has long been speculated that the way things ended up in ACOTAR Book 5 (A Court of Silver Flames, published 2021) may not really be the end, the author has now officially confirmed the same.

In the new episode of the podcast, released on March 4, 2026, Maas revealed that two new instalments to the series are on the way, and fans won't have to wait another five years for them. The author told Cooper that a "really, really, really big" story was ready for the readers, and the books will be out in the market by next year. The next instalment in the ACOTAR series, currently just named ACOTAR 6, will release on October 6, 2026, and the seventh instalment will follow closely behind, on January 12, 2027.

Why did it take her so long to release the next instalment of ACOTAR?

The author explained that returning to the ACOTAR world after so many years wasn’t easy, especially after she experienced a long spell of writer's block. She said she didn’t want to force herself to write another book just to meet expectations and instead waited until the right idea came naturally. In her words:

If I feel like I have writer's block, I'm like, 'Get your ass in the chair and work,' but this was different. This was different. I needed to get something sorted out first, and so this came out, like when this right story hit me, it hit me hard and I had a vision from the start of what it would be, how I would deliver it to you guys."

Maas revealed that the upcoming installments are designed to be experienced as one continuous story rather than separate sequels. She explained that the narrative is structured into multiple parts, with ACOTAR 6 covering the first section and ACOTAR 7 continuing the next stages of the same plotline. The author mentioned that the first part alone was already hundreds of pages long before she realised the story was expanding far beyond a single book.

More books coming from Sarah J. Maas

Beyond the upcoming ACOTAR instalments, Sarah J. Maas also hinted that she has several other projects in the works. Yes! While the next two books were already a major update, the author also revealed in the podcast that she has a well-planned direction for four of her upcoming books, likely spanning the other high-fantasy worlds, including the Crescent City universe. Maas has also teased the possibility of an entirely new series, though the details have been kept under wraps. However, for her fans, this means that there are a whole lot of magical new surprises to look forward to.

What's the ACOTAR series all about?

The first book of the series, titled A Court of Thorns and Roses, was released in 2015, followed by A Court of Mist and Fury (2016), A Court of Wings and Ruin (2017), A Court of Frost and Starlight (2018), and A Court of Silver Flames (2021). The high-fantasy series, featuring a mortal huntress and her journey into the realm of 'Faerie', was an instant hit. However, with the surge of BookTok, BookTube, and Bookstagram, it became one of the most viral romantsy series and made Sarah J. Maas the queen of fantasy.

The central story follows a mortal named 'Feyre Archeron', who unexpectedly finds herself in the fae realm after she kills a wolf that turns out to be a faerie. To punish her, the hurt faerie, 'Tamlin', takes her to the faerie lands of Prythian, where he rules as the High Lord. From a captive, she falls in love with the High Lord, but it changes when she stumbles with 'Rhysand', the hauntingly attractive and notorious High Lord of the Night Court, infamously known for its darkness, cruelty, and the Court of Nightmares. What happens next? Well, that's for readers to find out.

While Maas stayed tight-lipped about the plot, fans believe the next books may finally focus on 'Elain Archeron', the third Archeron sister. Unlike the first four books, centered on Feyre Archeron, the fifth book, A Court of Silver Flames, shifted focus to 'Nesta Archeron'. And following this pattern, it looks like 'Elain' could be the next protagonist.

If you haven't yet finished the fifth book, now's your chance to break that DNF streak, as the ACOTAR series isn't ending anytime soon!
